Drawing on data from four general elections between 2010 and 2019 this note shows that British MPs are increasingly likely to represent constituencies in the region of their birth. By 2019, more than half of British MPs were born in the region in which their constituency sat. We find clear partisan differences, but no overall gender divide. Increases in acceptances of over 10% are observed for students in Wales, a saturated local market is observed for Scotland, whilst in other re…
An estimate of the effect of abortions on the stillbirth rate
Consideration is given to the impact of the change in the Abortion Laws in 1968 on the national stillbirth rate. From investigation of the demographic characteristics of women having abortions it appears that abortions accounted for at least 26% of the fall in the stillbirth rate from 1969 to 1974.
Characteristics of vasectomy patients at a family planning clinic
Medical and social characteristics of couples who obtained a vasectomy at a Leicester Family Planning Association (FPA) clinic were compared with those from earlier studies. There were several differences which would suggest that the operation is now more popular with the public than in the late 1960s.
