  • Multilayered Installation Design: A framework for analysis and design of complex social events, illustrated by an analysis of virtual conferencing

Open Access•Saadi Lahlou, Maxi Heitmayer et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences & Humanities Open•2022

Humans are social animals living in societies with most of their activities occurring in social settings, characterized by multiple actors, the crossing of individual behavioral paths, interactions between participants themselves and between participants and material (or immaterial) setting components. We theorize that virtual conferences, like physical ones, have a dual-space structure where the two types of activities (content transfer and soci…

Open Access•Caroline Howarth, Catherine Campbell et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Political…•2013•Cited by: 14•References: 35

In this paper we demonstrate that societal psychology makes a unique contribution to the study of change through its focus on the 'contextual politics' of change, examining the different interests at stake within any social context. Societal psychology explores the contexts which promote or inhibit social and societal change and can be seen as a bridge between social and political psychology. It focuses on how the context shapes the ways in which…

  • Through the Creator's Eyes: Using the Subjective Camera to Study Craft Creativity

Vlad Petre Glăveanu, Saadi Lahlou•ARTICLE•Creativity Research Journal•2012

This article addresses a methodological gap in the study of creativity: the difficulty of capturing the microgenesis of creative action in ways that would reflect both its psychological and behavioral dynamics. It explores the use of subjective camera (subcam) by research participants as part of an adapted Subjective Evidence-Based Ethnography (SEBE). This methodology combines (a) obtaining first person audio-visual recordings of creative action …

  • Yes, Ronald Reagan's Rhetoric Was Unique—But Statistically, How Unique

    Open Access•Cheryl Schonhardt-Bailey, Cheryl Schonhardt‐bailey et al.•ARTICLE•Presidential Studies Quarterly•2012•Cited by: 8•References: 9

We use automated textual analysis to compare Ronald Reagan's rhetoric with that of presidents Woodrow Wilson through Barack Obama, using their State of the Union speeches. We are able to assign statistical significance to the thematic content, and to depict spatially the shifting dimensionality in themes used by presidents. We find strong evidence for Reagan's usage of the civil religion rhetoric: over half (59%) of the discourse in his seminal a…

It describes a new family of methods for social science research (Subjective Evidence-Based Ethnography: SEBE). The methods are based on: first-person audio-visual recording with a miniature video-camera worn at eye-level ('subcam'); confronting subjects with these first-person recordings to collect their subjective experience; form…

    Saadi Lahlou•ARTICLE•Réseaux•2007•Cited by: 1•References: 4

We have constructed an explanatory model of this syndrome, based on detailed studies of daily work. The agents are described as switching between "cognitive attractors". A cognitive attractor is a set of material and immaterial elements which potentially contribute…

  • The Propagation of Social Representations

    Open Access•Saadi Lahlou•ARTICLE•Journal for the Theory of Social…•1996•Cited by: 8•References: 6

Based on a minimal formalism of social representations as a set of associated cognems, a simple model of propagation of representations is presented. Assuming that subjects share the constitutive cognems, the model proposes that mere focused attention on the set of cognems in the field of common conscience may replicate the pattern of representation from context into subjects, or, from subject to subject, through actualization by language, where …
