On the development of the Sargatka Culture in the Tobol River basin region (based on materials of the Ustyug-1 burial ground)
The article is concerned with characteristics of funeral traditions of the Sargatka Culture population based on materials of the Ustyug-1 burial ground located in the Zavodoukovsky District of Tyumen Region. Six barrows of the Early Iron Age were studied in the area. Mounds 5 (5th-3rd c. BC), 51 and 52 (5th-4th c. BC) belong to the early stage of the culture. Sargatka burials of mounds 27 and 49 (3rd-2nd c. BC) were made during the middle stage. …
Chronological Complexes of the Iron and Middle Ages in the Trans-Urals (Based on the Materials of the Papskoe Settlement)
Purpose. In the article, we present materials from the new investigation of the multi–layered Papskoe settlement (hillfort) near the Iset River (Kurgan region). According to the results of the excavation, we identified six episodes of habitat in the Early Iron Age and in the Middle Ages. Results. Stratigraphic layers of the shaft, traces from ground and frame-pillar structures, and burials, probably of the Chiyalik type, make it possible to estab…
The Loess-Paleosol Sequence at the Krasnogorskoye Section, the Low-Hill Zone of the Northeastern Altai Mountains
The loess-paleosol sequence of the Krasnogorskoye section in the low-altitude area of the northeastern Altai Mountains, can provide a yardstick for estimating the age of the Paleolithic sites and reconstructing environmental and climatic changes. Its correlation with the respective sequence of the southern part of the West Siberian Plain is evaluated. Five pedocomplexes are studied in detail, evidencing the evolution of the Middle and Late Pleist…
