En las últimas décadas ha habido un aumento exponencial de los métodos analíticos aplicados en arqueozoología. • Enhancing “Places” Through Archaeological Heritage in Sun, Sand, and Sea Touristic Coastal Areas

Manuel Calvo Trías, David Javaloyas et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Island and Coastal…•2014•References: 7

Many islands and coastal areas worldwide, particularly in warm climates, have experienced a large and sustained population and urban growth driven by mass tourism. This development has created new social spaces that have broken the social and economic dynamics which have traditionally defined these areas. This new reality has led to new socioeconomic praxes that have improved the life of the local communities, but also entailed new conflicts and …

  • The ways people move

Manuel Calvo Trías, Manel Calvo et al.•ARTICLE•World Archaeology•2011•Cited by: 33•References: 12

This paper focuses on the study of the communication networks that linked the different Balearic communities during the late Bronze Age. To achieve this goal, weather conditions, sea routes, infrastructures of mobility, naval technology and navigational techniques associated with these movements are reconstructed and analysed. It is argued that communication networks structured the perception of space and time as well as generating a continuous s…

  • The Determinants of the Growth of Microenterprises in Central Mexico

Michael McPherson, Michael A McPherson et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Development…•2010•References: 21

Microenterprises (MEs) are a critical part of developing countries' economies. However, due to shortcomings in data gathering efforts, comparatively little is reliably known about these businesses. Our data result from a door-to-door survey technique and involve 450 MEs in central Mexico. Our paper represents the first effort to quantify the effect of remittances on microenterprise performance. We also examine whether access to credit affects ME …

  • Productive Efficiency and Salary Distribution

Open Access•R Todd Jewell, David J Molina et al.•ARTICLE•Scottish Journal of Political…•2004•Cited by: 3•References: 5

Recent theoretical research suggests that a firm's salary structure can affect the firm's productivity. We investigate the relationship between payroll inequality and production using US Major League Baseball data. Employing panel data methods, this study finds that salary inequality has a significantly negative effect on team success. A general result is that team success in term of wins does not seem to be correlated with efficiency; specifical…

  • Income distribution in Mexico's Northern border states

James T Peach, James Peach et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Borderlands Studies•2002•Cited by: 3•References: 6

A high degree of income inequality has been a persistent and troubling feature of the Mexican economy, but the degree of inequality is far from uniform in different regions of Mexico. Given the growth of the maquiladora industry and proximity to the United States, it is reasonable to anticipate that Mexico's northern border states exhibit a different pattern of inequality than other regions in Mexico. Using data from the 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998 an…

  • Mexico's Maquiladora trade and the industrial flight hypothesis

Emily Hoffnar, David Molina et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Borderlands Studies•1993•References: 3

The negotiating and ratification process of the North American Free Trade Agreement has brought new attention to the environmental problems of the U.S.-Mexico border. Particularly, much of the discussion has centered on whether the maquiladoras have had a large impact in creating the environmental problems along the border. The Integrated Environmental Border Plan under the Bush Administration and the parallel negotiations under the Clinton Admin…

  • Expenditure Pattern Differentials between One-Earner and Dual-Earner Households

Rose M Rubin, Bobye J Riney et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Consumer Research•1990•Cited by: 8

The impact of women's changing work roles on household expenditures by married couples is analyzed for 1972–1973 and 1984 utilizing data from the Consumer Expenditure Survey (CEX). One-earner households with a non-working wife (NWW) are compared at the same level of after-tax income to dual-earner households in which the wife works part time (PWW) and to those with wives working full time (FWW). The analysis indicates that expenditure shares are …

  • Measuring Preference Variation across North America

Kathy Hayes, David J Molina et al.•ARTICLE•Economica•1988

This paper utilizes the generalized Fechner-Thurstone direct utility function to see if relative price changes in neighboring countries affect the preference structure of the host country. The authors analyze the case of Canada, Mexico, and the United States. They utilize the generalized Fechner-Thurstone functional form because it allows them to detect changes in preferences when parameters, such as prices, change. They find evidence of Veblen e…
