Open Access•Mara Sanfelici, Luca Pavani•ARTICLE•Cambio Rivista sulle Trasformazioni…•2026

This paper explores potential intersections between anti-oppressive social work approach and queer theories. Although developed in different contexts, both perspectives emerged from movements contesting misrecognition, stigmatization, and structural discrimination, and both aim to transform everyday life-worlds as well as welfare institutions. On this basis, the paper identifies a shared critical and pragmatic orientation toward social justice. F…

  • Coping strategies against oppression in social workers’ everyday practice

Luca Pavani, Elena Allegri et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social Work•2025•References: 6

The article discusses findings from a national study examining social workers' (SWs) awareness of potentially oppressive professional and organisational practices within social and health services. The international definition of social work (IFSW, 2014) assumes that SWs not only should promote social justice, but also have agency and enough power to tackle processes that produce oppression and social exclusion. Nevertheless, SWs are most of the …

    Open Access•Daniela Mauri, Mara Sanfelici et al.•ARTICLE•Child & Family Social Work•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 1

It is now well established that young people who, for different reasons, grow up in care face particular challenges when they leave the care system. Many policies have been enacted to support them, but not enough is known about their subjective views on their situation and what their idea of well‐being is and their aspirations in its regard. The article presents the results of a survey which involved 454 Italian care leavers aged 16–25 years old.…

  • Parents living in poverty and the welfare system

    Mara Sanfelici•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Studies•2022•References: 5

This contribution explores the experience of parents struggling with poverty when interacting with welfare services meant to support them and their families. Low-income families face ambivalent social attitudes as well as grudging social assistance, often linked to the fear of creating dependency, in a culture that values independence and competition. Scholars have highlighted how these representations have affected common sense discourses, as we…

The second part analyzes the impact of the crisis and its management in the resp…

  • ‘A Community no matter what’

Silvia Fargion, Mara Sanfelici et al.•ARTICLE•Social Work Education•2020

The COVID-19 pandemic and the associated socio-economic crisis are posing unprecedented challenges both globally and locally, raising many unknowns and imposing difficult trade-offs. One of the side effects of this pandemic, with the ensuing physical distancing rules and quarantine, has been the condition of isolation that is affecting vulnerable populations disproportionately across the world. Against this background, one of the major tasks for …
