Living Next to the Bodies of the Dead: Sense of Ancestry Through Dark Heritage in Quillagua, Atacama Desert, Chile
This article addresses the relationship between heritage and ancestry. It aims to understand the manner in which human remains from different periods and cultures become relevant symbols for a community. The territory of Quillagua was studied, an oasis of the Loa River in the Atacama Desert, combining ethnographic, cartographic, and historiographic techniques. Social emotions, heritage and recognition. The Struggle of Colina Stonemasons in Santiago, Chile
In this article we refer to the way in which emotions affect the relationship between heritage appreciation and community recognition. For this purpose, we analyse different factors that cause misrecognition, contrasting them with the case of a guild of stonemasons that had to face state policies, lobbying of real estate companies, and the hegemony of the Authorized Heritage Discourse. Adapting past identity: Inclusive pride at the National Historical Museum of Chile
In the present article, we analyse how the emotions and attitudes of the present attempt to change the outdated programme of cultural governance of the National Historical Museum of Chile. Through the analysis of fifteen consultative assemblies, we intend to establish the dominant emotional climate regarding the Chilean past and its national identity, as well as the influence of this on the reformulation of the Museum’s new permanent exhibition. …
Indigenous heritage and healing nostalgia: Mapuche's lof in Rehue Romopulli, Port Saavedra, Chile
This article discusses how various agents influence the configuration of Indigenous emotions and how a healing nostalgia emerges, looking forward to a supposed ‘golden age’ that seeks to heal internal social problems, while at the same time symbolically repairing the ‘immemorial’ Indigenous conflict with the Chilean State and its society.
