  • "Film!"-The Arab Revolutions and the Filmmaker as Amanuensis

    Peter Snowdon•ARTICLE•Visual Anthropology•2016•References: 6

In her recent memoir of the Egyptian revolution Ahdaf Soueif records how one day a woman came up to her on Tahrir Square and started instructing her on how to write down the “national epic” unfolding around them. Taking Soueif’s text as an allegory of the relationship between the individual and the people, I explore how an analogous process is enacted in one particular video shot in Cairo on January 25, 2011. Taken together, these two “texts” sug…

  • The Revolution Will be Uploaded

    Open Access•Peter Snowdon•ARTICLE•Culture Unbound Journal of…•2014•Cited by: 7•References: 11

The vernacular online videos produced by the Arab revolutions constitute an un-precedented (though not unproblematic) historical resource for understanding the subjective experience of the ordinary people who find themselves on the front line of revolutionary struggle. But they also effect a sea-change in the way in which we view and understand YouTube itself. This article argues that the political significance of these videos lies less in their …

  • Jacques Guilhaumou, Cartographier la nostalgie. L’utopie concrète de mai 68

    Peter Snowdon•ARTICLE•Lectures•2013

  • Hong Sang-Soo, Woman on the beach

    Peter Snowdon•ARTICLE•Lectures•2013

Conservative Problems in Historical Perspective

    Open Access•Peter Snowdon, Daniel Collings•ARTICLE•The Political Quarterly•2004

Since 2001, the Conservative party has found itself in turbulent times. Yet the party has survived similarly difficult periods in the past, eventually recovering its strength and returning to power. Can it do so again? The problems for today's party exist along four key dimensions: leadership, policy, organisation and political circumstances. How grave are contemporary difficulties in each of these areas in comparison to past experience? To what …
