  • In memoriam Richard Paul Guyette 1947–2023

Michael C Stambaugh, Daniel Dey et al.•ARTICLE•Tree-Ring Research•2024

  • Tree-Ring-Radiocarbon Dating at a Late Contact Period Kitkahahki Pawnee Site on the Central Great Plains, Usa

    Open Access•Nicholas V Kessler, Gregory W L Hodgins et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 41

This study obtained calendar dates by radiocarbon accelerator mass spectrometry ( 14 C AMS) dating sequential tree-rings of wooden support posts from the buried remains of traditional Kitkahahki Pawnee earthlodges preserved at an archaeological site on the Central Great Plains, USA. The tree-ring segments from the site were dendrochronologically analyzed prior to this study, but the cross-matched site chronology could not be definitively cross-da…

  • The importance of drought–pathogen interactions in driving oak mortality events in the Ozark Border Region

    Open Access•Jeffrey D Wood, Benjamin O Knapp et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2017

Forests are expected to become more vulnerable to drought-induced tree mortality owing to rising temperatures and changing precipitation patterns that amplify drought lethality. There is a crucial knowledge gap regarding drought-pathogen interactions and their effects on tree mortality. The objectives of this research were to examine whether stand dynamics and 'background' mortality rates were affected by a severe drought in 2012; and to evaluate…

  • Deglacial Hydroclimate of Midcontinental North America

    Open Access•Steven L Voelker, Michael C Stambaugh et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2015

During the last deglaciation temperatures over midcontinental North America warmed dramatically through the Bølling-Allerød, underwent a cool period associated with the Younger-Dryas and then reverted to warmer, near modern temperatures during the early Holocene. However, paleo proxy records of the hydroclimate of this period have presented divergent evidence. We reconstruct summer relative humidity (RH) across the last deglacial period using a m…

  • Progress in Constructing a Long Oak Chronology from the Central United States

    Michael C Stambaugh, Richard P Guyette•ARTICLE•Tree-Ring Research•2009

We describe methods and progress in developing the American Long Oak Chronology (ALOC), an effort to construct an oak tree-ring chronology from the Central US that spans the Holocene. Since 2000, we have collected and measured ring widths on over 550 pieces of subfossil oak (Quercus) wood. Over 330 oak samples have been radiocarbon dated, with ages ranging up to 14,000 cal yr B.P. A 1,093-year-long tree-ring record has been constructed from live …
