Key factors for inappropriate supplement intake in risk-taking users
This study identified the control factors of inappropriate supplement intake to support public agencies in preventing health problems. We used an exploratory sequential mixed-method design with the integrated behavioral model (IBM). Control factors in the IBM were identified with 95 participants. The highest impact behavioral change was established for the following two out of 19 control factors: "I trust others' blogs as a source of information …
Differences in consumers' perceptions based on the description order/amount of benefit–risk information on foods
Purpose In this study, the authors clarified the differences in consumers' benefit–risk perceptions based on changes (description order and amount) in the benefit–risk information after an assessment of the health impact of foods. Design/methodology/approach The authors set the following four benefit–risk information groups relating to fatty fish consumption—Group 1: benefit/simple–risk/detail; Group 2: risk/detail–benefit/simple; Group 3: benefi…
The usefulness of a checklist approach-based confirmation scheme in identifying unreliable Covid-19-related health information
Consumers are increasingly able to easily access health information online about food products. However, consumers have difficulty identifying reliable health information from diverse sources along with information about the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic because the inundation of information (both true and false) overwhelm consumers. We investigated the usefulness of a checklist confirmation scheme for identifying unreliable COVID-19-re…
Levels of trust in risk-only negative health messages issued by public agencies
Trust in messengers is essential for a public agency to ensure effective benefit-risk communication. However, there is insufficient research on the difference in trust between risk-only or benefit-and-risk messages that deal with negative topics. To clarify these differences, this study used three radiation topics to determine the best benefit-risk communication design. We conducted a randomized comparative study in November 2020 on 1100 Japanese…
