  • Bridging immunization gaps

Open Access•Moses Mwale, Penelope Masumbu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Zambia’s 2024 Measles-Rubella Supplementary Immunization Activity (SIA), conducted from 23 to 28 September across all 116 districts, targeted children aged 9–59 months to address immunization gaps exacerbated by COVID-19 disruptions and responding to ongoing measles outbreaks. This community case study evaluates the effectiveness of microplanning, the feasibility of real-time digital monitoring, and the equity of reaching zero-dose children durin…

  • Building resilience against cholera

Open Access•Moses Mwale, Peter J Chipimo et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2025

Cholera has remained a persistent public health challenge in Zambia since the country’s first reported outbreak in 1977. This article describes the implementation of the integrated community strategy for choler…

  • Profiling zero-dose measles-rubella children in Zambia

Open Access•Moses Mwale, Guissimon Phiri et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2025

Measles & Rubella (MR) zero-dose children (unvaccinated for measles–rubella) cluster in underserved communities can sustain measles transmission. We estimated MR zero-dose prevalence after Zambia’s 2024 MR Supplementary Immunisation Activity (SIA) and identified associated risk factors and barriers. A coverage survey (two-stage stratified cluster design) across all 10 provinces, was conducted from 27 th December 2024–16 th January 2025, involved …

  • Strong effects of home-based voluntary HIV counselling and testing on acceptance and equity

    Open Access•Knut Fylkesnes, Ingvild Fossgard Sandøy et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2013•Cited by: 2•References: 52

  • Mental distress in the general population in Zambia

    Open Access•Peter J Chipimo, Knut Fylkesnes•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2009

These findings suggest a strong effect of HIV infection on mental distress. In this population where few knew their HIV status, this effect was mediated through self-perceptions of health status, found to capture changes in health perceptions related to HIV, and self-perceived risk and worry of actually being HIV infected
