  • Dating of Wooden Heritage Objects in the Gliwice 14 C and Mass Spectrometry Laboratory

    We present case studies on three objects of high importance for cultural heritage in southern Poland, dated in years 2018–2022 at the Gliwice 14 C and Mass Spectrometry Laboratory with radiocarbon ( 14 C) and dendrochronology methods.   • Find of a Bronze Macehead from the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland in Poland

    The Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom houses an interesting find of a macehead discovered in the Michałowiec nature reserve (commonly known as the Michałowiec/Michałówka Forest). The reserve is located on the northern slope of a large rise of terrain of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland (Polish: Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska) that shelves toward the River Biała Przemsza valley.     The paper deals with a couter of a late fourteenth to early fifteenth century date which was found in Ogrodzieniec Castle, Zawiercie District, Poland (now in the collection of the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom, MG 7755). The find survived in a vestigial condition, but it was still possible to propose some typological analogies to it. Metallographic examinations demonstrated that the artefact had been manufactured from almost carbon-free iron wit…
