The Experimental Use of Personal Constructs in Educational Research
S ummary . The paper discusses a modification of the triadic elicitation procedure which is commonly used to reveal subjects' personal constructs. The modification enables personal construct methodology to be used in the experimental, rather than descriptive or diagnostic exploration of research problems. Two studies are reported. In the first study, 24 general practitioners from the Oxford region of England provided information about 950 of their consultations. The aims of the study were threefold. The first aim was to discover the rate at which general practitioners experience communication difficulties in their consultations.
