Multi-proxy reconstruction and visualization of a land-use mosaic: Time-space dimensions of human impact on the landscape in the archaeological rock art park of Campo Lameiro (NW Spain)
The Archaeological Rock Art Park (PAAR) of Campo Lameiro contains one of the most important concentrations of open-air late prehistoric rock art in Europe. We extended and improved the spatial and temporal resolution of the palaeoenvironmental reconstructions with colluvial soil records of pollen and non-pollen palynomorphs (NPPs). We sought to identify scale effects of the impact of anthropogenic disturbance on the basis of differences between s…

Raised from the ashes: Geoarchaeological perspectives on house burning practices in an Iberian Iron Age village
Burnt houses are a recurrent phenomenon in the prehistoric archaeological record, yet the specific processes behind their burning—likely varying across time and place—remain poorly understood. This study focuses on a thoroughly studied dwelling (House 1) from the Iberian Early Iron Age settlement of Cerro de San Vicente and investigates site formation processes associated with its burning. To achieve this, we applied a multi-proxy geoarchaeologic…

Middens, commonly found in archaeological sites across different chronologies, serve as rich sedimentary archives of daily life by capt…
Tracing the biographies of textiles in the transition of medieval to modern times: Wool fabrics and brigandines from an Iberian castle
Findings of archaeological textiles and fibres in Northern Iberia are extremely rare. The occurrence of a set of textile fragments, dated between the 14th and 16th centuries CE at the Pambre castle (Palas de Rei, Lugo, Spain) is exceptional. The original stone roof of the southeastern tower was intact. The dark, cold and moist conditions inside the tower favoured the preservation of a unique series of waterlogged textile remains. In addition, a s…
