  • Les temps de l’agriculture. Variations et interférences dans les traductions bibliques

    Open Access•Carlo Maria Pertica, Liana Tronci•ARTICLE•Roczniki Humanistyczne•2025

  • Voice Markers in Septuagint Greek in the Light of Hebrew Interference: A Corpus‐Based Study on the Aorist System of the Book of Genesis

Open Access•Eystein Dahl, Liana Tronci•ARTICLE•Transactions of the Philological…•2023

In this paper, we examine the behaviour of so‐called passive and middle aorist forms in the Greek reflected in the Genesis of the Septuagint. The Septuagint, and Biblical Greek more generally, displays a considerable aberration with respect to other varieties of Ancient Greek regarding the relative frequency of passive vis‐à‐vis middle aorist forms. Here, we explore this feature of Septuagint Greek in some detail, showing that there is a more or …

  • Impersonal Constructions Between Personae and ‘Personlessness’. Strategies of Language Manipulation in Aeschines and Demosthenes

    Liana Tronci•ARTICLE•Trends in Classics•2022

This paper investigates the distribution of different types of impersonal constructions in Attic oratory and focuses on the data taken from two political speeches, i. e., Aeschines’ Against Ctesiphon (speech 3) and Demosthenes’ On the Crown (speech 18). The topic of impersonal constructions in Ancient Greek has not yet received much attention from scholars, with the exception of some studies devoted to singular aspects, e. g., the semantics and m…

  • Forme dell’atto direttivo nel greco neotestamentario. Politeness, testualità e mutamento linguistico

    Open Access•Liana Tronci•ARTICLE•Veleia•2022

  • Pseudo-coordination and serial verbs in Hellenistic Greek: Some insights from the New Testament and the Septuagint

    Open Access•Felicia Logozzo, Liana Tronci•ARTICLE•Journal of Greek Linguistics•2022•References: 2

This paper deals with Biblical Greek multiverb constructions in which two verbs, inflected in the same mood, person and number, are either coordinated by καί or asyndetically juxtaposed and relate to a single event. The first verb is semantically constrained (verb of motion), and does not govern any complement. In typological studies, these constructions are known as pseudo-coordinated and serialised constructions, depending on the presence of th…

  • Aorist voice patterns in the diachrony of Greek

    Open Access•Liana Tronci•ARTICLE•Journal of Greek Linguistics•2018•References: 3

This paper deals with the aorist voice system in NT Greek and focuses on middle-passive markers, namely middle inflection, e.g. in the middle sigmatic aorist, and affixes -η-/-θη-, in the so-called passive aorist. The research is corpus-based and investigates the occurrences of ca. 1800 verbal items. According to the grammarians, in the NT both middle and passive aorists spread. The present study confirms this observation by providing a comprehen…

    Open Access•Liana Tronci•ARTICLE•Pallas•2017•References: 7

This paper deals with Latin verbs in -isso/-izo/-idio and proposes a sociolinguistic analysis. These verbs are commonly considered to be productive, although most of them are loans and calques from Greek and the tokens of many types are hápax legómena. In order to re-examine the supposed productivity of Latin verbs, two facts are to be taken into account. Firstly, the verbs are unevenly distributed within the texts: they occur in Plautus’ comedie…

  • Formes moyennes oppositives et non oppositives. Brèves notes sur le grec ancien

    Liana Tronci•ARTICLE•Langages•2014•Cited by: 5•References: 13
