A Label for Opening of the Mouth Implements from the Burial of Senneferi (TT99) and Remarks on the Ritual
In 2009, Nigel Strudwick published a paper drawing attention to a number of objects found in TT99 which seem to have been used in the Opening of the Mouth ritual. In 2015 an hieratic label from the same burial was identified as possibly belonging to a bag or box in which these items were kept. This paper presents a full edition of the label, and offers further comments on the context where the objects were found, and also indicates lines of resea…

Die Wanddarstellungen im Grab des Mehu in Saqqara
A Fragment of a Scene of Foreigners from the Theban Necropolis
Early in 1999 a previously unknown fragment of wall-painting (fig. 1) formed part of a sale of antiquities at Christie's in London.1 The object was sold to Royal-Athena Galleries in New York. Enquiries as to its provenance have so far only revealed that it was once part of the Thalassic Collection, having been previously purchased in New York in 1987.2 Thus the date of its departure from Egypt is not known. The painting shows parts of three forei…

An Index of Ancient Egyptian Titles, Epithets and Phrases of the Old Kingdom
This monumental two-volume work updates Murray's Index of Old Kingdom Titles published in 1908. In addition to Old Kingdom titles and phrases, there are a large number from the Archaic Period and several from the First Intermediate Period. The clearly presented entries, arranged alphabetically, provide the most common orthnography with a transliteration and translation, with a date and textual references. An invaluable reference tool

A Slab of 'Int-kȝs in the Fitzwilliam Museum
Publication of a slab showing 'Int-kȝs and her daughters, which has been in Cambridge since 1909, although nothing is known of its origins. It is suggested that it was originally part of a tomb at Giza. Stylistically, it resembles pieces of both the early and late Old Kingdom. A date in the mid-Fifth or late Sixth Dynasty is likely

A Well-Known Piece on Merseyside
This architrave of Akhethotep has been in the University of Liverpool since 1904, when it was given by the Rev. W. MacGregor in commemoration of the inauguration of the Institute of Archaeology. The title of this article reflects the fact that for many years now it has graced the entrance hall of the Institute's successor, the School of Archaeology and Oriental Studies, and is well-known to most of its students and staff.2

An Objective Colour-Measuring System for the Recording of Egyptian Tomb Paintings
The standard of documentation of the colours used in the relief and painting of Egyptian monuments has not been as satisfactory as that of the documentation of the decoration itself. Recent approaches have involved the use of colour charts as a resolution of this problem. There is a certain lack of objectivity in this, as well as many practical difficulties. A Minolta CR-221 colorimeter has been taken into the field to attempt a more objective ap…
