  • Test-Retest Reliability of the Idea Inventory

    Open Access•Norris D Vestre•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1984

The Idea Inventory proposed as a measure of irrational thinking as defined by rational-emotive theory, was administered to two independent samples of college students on two occasions. Sample 1 ( n = 135) provided a test-retest interval of 4 wk.; Sample 2 ( n = 114), an interval of 4 to 6 wk. Indices of temporal stability, test-retest reliability coefficients (product-moment) and group changes over time, indicated satisfactory reliability for the…

  • Psychological Adjustment of Persons Seeking Sensitivity Group Experiences

    Open Access•Norris D Vestre, Roger L Greene et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1978

College students ( N = 37) who volunteered to participate in sensitivity training groups were compared on a number of measures of psychological adjustment with a random sample ( N = 40) of those who did not volunteer to participate. Subjects were administered the Mini-Mult form of the MMPI, the MMPI Social Introversion scale, the Beck Depression Inventory, a problem checklist, and a questionnaire dealing with history of, and treatment for, mental…

  • Validity of Family Informants' Ratings of Psychiatric Patients

    Open Access•Robert Zimmermann, Robert L Zimmermann et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1976

Ratings of psychiatric inpatients by members of their families at admission were validated against ratings by hospital personnel and patients' self-ratings. There were low, but statistically significant, relationships across data sources, but there were also systematic differences in regard to what symptom areas were measured most validly and what was regarded as most pathological by each data source. Ward-based ratings were most effective at rat…

  • Validity of Family Informants' Ratings of Psychiatric Patients

    Open Access•Robert Zimmermann, Robert L Zimmermann et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1975

149 psychiatric patients were rated by members of their families, using the Katz Adjustment Scale. The validity of these ratings was assessed against entrance diagnosis, global ratings of pathology by patient, nurse, and psychiatric resident, and standard ward- and self-ratings. The family ratings had validity levels comparable to ward- and self-ratings

  • Behavioral Correlates of the Mmpi Paranoia Scale

    Open Access•Norris D Vestre, Charles G Watson•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1972

This study investigated the behavioral correlates of the Paranoia scale of the MMPI. Behavior ratings were made on 112 psychiatric patients using the Hostile Belligerence and Paranoid Projection scales from the Psychotic Inpatient Profile. Product-moment correlations obtained were not statistically significant. Analyses testing an hypothesized curvilinear relationship between Paranoia scale scores and paranoid symptomatology also were not statist…

  • Validation Study of the Psychotic Inpatient Profile

    Open Access•Norris D Vestre, Robert Zimmermann•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1970

Validity data on the Psychotic Inpatient Profile (PIP), a revision of the Psychotic Reaction Profile, were obtained by comparing ratings of closed- (locked) ward versus open-ward patients and admissions versus releases. Discriminant analyses differentiated the groups in each comparison at the .01 level. Correct classification was obtained for 84.2% of the patients in the closed versus open comparison and for 75.5% in the admissions versus release…

  • A Set of Factor Analytically Derived Scales for Scoring the M-B History Record

Theodore W Lorei, THEODORE LOREI et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•1969

A study was made of the factor structure underlying items from a standard social history questionnaire, The Briggs M-B History Record (MBHR). Relatives of 187 psychiatric patients completed the MBHR. An orthogonal factor analysis yielded 7 factors identified on the basis of item content as Condbct Disorder, Home Instability, Poor Family Atmosphere, Low Educational Achievement, Lack of Social Interest, Hypochondriasis, and Learning Difficulty. The…

  • Relative Effects of Phenothiazines and Phenobarbital on Verbal Conditioning of Schizophrenics

    Open Access•Norris D Vestre•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1965

83 hospitalized schizophrenics were given verbal conditioning trials after 8 wk. of treatment with fluphenazine, triflupromazine, or phenobarbital. Within each drug group, Ss were assigned to an experimental or control group. Only the phenobarbital group showed a significant conditioning effect
