    Open Access•Irene Götz, Petra Schweiger•ARTICLE•Anthropological Journal of…•2023

This article presents case studies of older women's survival strategies in domestic settings in the expensive city of Munich, based on ethnographic material from two research projects on women's precarious retirement and the use of technology in old age. The self-care routines developed by the women over time assemble mental strategies and attitudes, bodily practices and socio-material techniques integrated into a specific spatial setting. These …

    Open Access•Irene Götz•ARTICLE•Nations and Nationalism•2016•Cited by: 3•References: 8

This article examines how and in which societal and political contexts nationhood is expressed and symbolised in reunified Germany. This ‘rediscovery’ of nationhood since the 1990s mixes new and old motifs of the cultural repertoire of ‘the national’ for different purposes. Three main contexts triggered a rediscovery of ‘the national’ after 1989: reunification , immigration and the retrenchment of the social state . I argue, by analysing ethnogra…

  • Sensing Post-Fordist Work Life Recent Perspectives in the Ethnography of Work

    Open Access•Irene Götz•ARTICLE•Ethnologia Europaea•2013

The article discusses the transition from Fordism to post-Fordism in the world of work and at the same time pleads for a critical reflection on the use of these concepts. It presents three German case studies conducted under the supervision of the author, which examine how this transition is experienced very differently: by mothers using managerial techniques of parenting, independent financial advisers, and manual workers in a picture-frame fact…
