The constant pressure of anthropogenic activities has generated that the cloud forest fragments (BN) have an island pattern surrounded by a matrix of socioeconomic activities. The conservation of this ecosystem is key due to its high biological diversity that it represents in relation to its territorial extension in Mexico and globally. The objective of this work is to analyze the changes in the vegetation cover and the structural connectivity of…

  • Detailed geomorphology of debris avalanches of El Estribo volcanic complex (Central Mexico)

    Open Access•Gemma Gómez-Castillo, Maria-Eugenia Mendoza et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2020

The El Estribo Volcanic Complex, located to the south of Pátzcuaro Lake (Central Mexico), forms an elevation based on a shield volcano crowned by a cinder cone. Two debris avalanches, dated at 28,000 and 14,000 ybp, cover an area of 4 km 2 with a typical hummocky topography. The zone is a state natural protected area with no previous studies of hazard and risk from mass movement processes. Herein, we present a detailed geomorphological map of the…

  • Climatic Signal in Earlywood and Latewood in Conifer Forests in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, Mexico

    Open Access•Teodoro Carlón-Allende, José Villanueva-Díaz et al.•ARTICLE•Tree-Ring Research•2018

Earlywood (EW) and latewood (LW) chronologies can be used to analyze seasonal climatic variation. We constructed and analyzed total ring (RW), EW, and LW ring growth in Abies religiosa and Pinus pseudostrobus trees from the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve and evaluated their climatic signal (monthly precipitation and mean average, minimum and maximum temperatures) in the growth of tree rings by correlation and response function analyses. Prec…

  • Quick counts in the Mexican presidential elections

  • Another body project

    Open Access•Ietza Bojorquez-Chapela, Ietza Bojorquez et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2014•Cited by: 7•References: 40

In this article, we examine the bodily experiences of Mexican women, to investigate their acceptance of the thin ideal and resulting body dissatisfaction. We conducted semi-structured individual interviews with 30 adult participants in Mexico City. Interviewees accepted the thin body ideal, but experiencing their bodies as signifiers of motherhood protected them from body dissatisfaction. Instead of a personal body project, they engaged in a proj…

  • Adaptation strategies in communities under precarious housing

    Open Access•Juan Hernández-Guerrero, Juan Carlos Hernández‐Guerrero et al.•ARTICLE•Applied Geography•2012

  • Hydrological implications of land use and land cover change

    Open Access•Maria-Eugenia Mendoza, M E Mendoza et al.•ARTICLE•Singapore Journal of Tropical…•2010

A spatially distributed water balance model was used to assess the influence of regional land use and land cover change in a poorly gauged basin for the years 1975 and 2000. To carry out this study in the Cuitzeo Lake basin in Michoacan, Mexico, remote sensing and geographic information system tools were integrated in the water balance model. In addition, a transition matrix analysis was used to determine the dynamic change of categories of relat…

  • Forecasting an Accumulated Series Based on Partial Accumulation

Enrique De Alba, Maria-Eugenia Mendoza et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2001

We present a Bayesian solution to forecasting a time series when few observations are available. The quantity to predict is the accumulated value of a positive, continuous variable when partially accumulated data are observed. These conditions appear naturally in predicting sales of style goods and coupon redemption. A simple model describes the relation between partial and total values, assuming stable seasonality. Exact analytic results are obt…
