  • Navigating collaborative governance

Open Access•Peter Tangney, Cassandra Star et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2023

This paper examines the roles for emergency and disaster risk management plans as policy artefacts that guide centralised governance networks. Past scholarship has been sceptical of the instrumental worth of these artefacts for informing and elaborating governance arrangements. Some suspect that such plans are purely symbolic devices, mere ‘fantasy documents’. This paper examines the role of South Australia's state emergency management plan durin…

  • Indonesian Women’s Civil Service Leadership

    Open Access•Holly Mclaren, Emi Patmisari et al.•ARTICLE•Administration & Society•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 66

Women in Indonesia’s civil service ( n = 320) were surveyed about their career advancement. Analysis of variance identified differences in career progression, and post-hoc comparisons were tested using Fisher’s Least Significant Difference method. We found that family support and interpersonal relationships, paired with superior education to men, were critical to women’s successful leadership progression, especially through the echelon ranks. Qua…

Open Access•Clare Littleton, Cassandra Star et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Journal of Public…•2021•References: 3

Research suggests policy action on the social determinants of health (SDH) is required to reduce child health inequities (HE). However, there has been limited action in this area in Australia. Political will has been identified as a barrier but few public health scholars have conducted research which adopts a political science perspective to explore this issue. This study aims to address this gap in the literature. We conducted 27 semi‐structured…

This article reports on research methodology used for a case study investigating public health nutrition engagement in food regulatory policy processes in Australia. It aims to explore methods used and outline a model for how researchers can promote participant recall and accuracy. A set of key documents identified as relevant to voluntary food fortification policy (VFP) were analysed using Bacchi's 'What's the problem represented to be?' approac…

  • Indonesian Women in Public Service Leadership

Open Access•Holly Mclaren, Cassandra Star et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2019

Masculinist contours have legitimized male domination in Indonesia’s upper public service ranks. However, some women have managed to crack the glass ceiling. A systematic search was undertaken of seven academic databases and the Google Scholar search engine to identify facilitative features of women’s career advancement through Indonesia’s echelon ranks. Fourteen articles, representing nine studies, were identified. While policy initiatives exist…
