  • Increased wind risk from sting-jet windstorms with climate change

    Open Access•Oscar Martínez‐Alvarado, Suzanne L Gray et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2018

Extra-tropical cyclones dominate autumn and winter weather over western Europe. The strongest cyclones, often termed windstorms, have a large socio-economic impact on landfall due to strong surface winds and coastal storm surges. Climate model integrations have predicted a future increase in the frequency of, and potential damage from, European windstorms and yet these integrations cannot properly represent localised jets, such as sting jets, tha…

  • Reuse Of Pacemakers In Ghana And Nigeria

Open Access•Aloysius Ochasi, Peter A Clark et al.•ARTICLE•Developing World Bioethics•2015

According to the W orld H ealth O rganization ( WHO ) cardiovascular disease ( CVD ) is the leading cause of death globally. Over 80% of CVD deaths take place in low‐ and middle‐income countries ( LMIC s). • Sting jets in intense winter North-Atlantic windstorms

    Open Access•Oscar Martínez‐Alvarado, Oscar Martínez-Alvarado et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2012

Extratropical cyclones dominate autumn and winter weather over western Europe. The strongest cyclones, often termed windstorms, have a large socio-economic impact due to the strong surface winds and associated storm surges in coastal areas. Here we show that sting jets are a common feature of windstorms; up to a third of the 100 most intense North-Atlantic winter windstorms over the last two decades satisfy conditions for sting jets. The sting je…

  • Medical Futility

    Open Access•Peter A Clark•ARTICLE•The AMA Journal of Ethic•2007

  • Mother-to-Child Transmission of Hiv in Botswana

    Open Access•Peter A Clark•ARTICLE•Developing World Bioethics•2006

Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV represents a particularly dramatic aspect of the HIV epidemic with an estimated 600,000 newborns infected yearly, 90% of them living in sub-Saharan Africa. Since the beginning of the HIV epidemic, an estimated 5.1 million children worldwide have been infected with HIV. MTCT is responsible for 90% of these infections. Two-thirds of the MTCT are believed to occur during pregnancy and delivery, and about on…
