  • Individual Viewpoints of Social Desirability Related to Faking Good and Desirability Estimation

    Open Access•Joel Match, Nancy Wiggins•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1974

Two groups of subjects were asked to fake good on selected MMPI scales, and to estimate the social desirability of 100 trait adjectives. These two tasks were counterbalanced for order. A control group was administered the same MMPI scales under self-report instructions and instructed to judge the social desirability of the 100 trait adjectives. The first two groups of subjects were also given 17 trait adjectives in pair-comparison format and aske…

  • Individual Differences in Semantic Space: A Replication and Extension

Richard Shikiar, Martin Fishbein et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•1974

Using a rating task and a method of analysis which allows for individual differences in the use of semantic differential scales, substantial individual differences were found to emerge. In addition, the group average structure corresponded closely to that which has been found in traditional semantic differential research. These two findings replicate previous results. To test the usefulness of an individual differences approach, evaluative scores…

  • Individual Differences in Diagnostic Judgments of Psychosis and Neurosis from the MMPI

    Open Access•Nancy Wiggins•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1971

THE numerous comparisons of clinicians with computers in fore-casting behavior (usually to the computer’s advantage) have led investigators to the more fundamental problem of how different clinicians arrive at their predictions; for a recent review see Goldberg (1968). This concern with the clinical judgment process has necessarily involved the notion of individual differences among clinical judges. As with most kinds of data, individual differen…

  • Man versus model of man revisited: The forecasting of graduate school success

  • Prediction of Long-Term Success in Doctoral Work in Psychology

Open Access•J Richard Hackman, Nancy Wiggins et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1970

  • Affective Meaning Systems: A Multivariate Approach

    Frank W Snyder, Nancy Wiggins•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•1970

A three-mode factor analysis was applied to the semantic differential ratings by 100 subjects of 20 concepts on 76 bipolar adjeotival scales. Four scale factors, five concept factors, and two subject factors emerged f m the analysis. On the basis of the interrelationships among these three types of factors it was concluded that different types of subjwts tend to utilize the basic scalar dimensions of meaning in different ways when applying khese …

  • A Typological Analysis of Male Preferences for Female Body Types

Nancy Wiggins, Jerry S Wiggins et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•1969

A multivariate analysis of the preference ratings of 96 male undergraduates for 105 pairs of nude female silhouettes differing in breast size, buttocks size, and leg size, suggested that there are at least five distinct heterosexual somatic preference orientations

  • Types of judges and cue utilization in judgments of intelligence

Nancy Wiggins, Paul J Hoffman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1969•Cited by: 5

  • Dimensions Of Profile Judgments As A Function Of Instructions, Cue-Consistency And Individual Differences

Nancy Wiggins, Paul Hoffman•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•1968

It was hypothesized that paired-comparison judgments of multiple-cue profiles would be a joint function of instruction set,- cue-inconsistency, and individual differences. Thirty-one subjects judged all possible pairs of 22 profiles containing eight cues in an own-control, counterbalanced design. A comparison of instructions providing no attribute for judging similarity with those which did provide an attribute revealed systematic differences wit…
