  • On temporality and morality: Negotiating POW survival in current protracted wars

    Nitzan Rothem•ARTICLE•Critical Military Studies•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 35

This article juxtaposes the procedures and narratives by which US and Israeli political cultures mediate situations of prisoners of war (POWs) during protracted wars. In protracted wars, repatriation is independent of reconciliation processes, with no international contracts governing the ethics of asymmetric prisoner exchange. Empirically, this article examines political cultures by analyzing news reports of Bowe Bergdahl (USA) and Gilad Shalit …

  • Mutuality and the study of suicide: Psychological notions on military suicides in Israeli courts

    Open Access•Nitzan Rothem, E Ben-Ari•ARTICLE•The Sociological Review•2019•References: 38

Our findings rest on content analysis of 34 verdicts on cases of sui…

This chapter, which might seem a mere collection of 'leftover' materials, is where Van Gennep's conceptualization subverts perceptions of structure as a rigid social organization. Here, he does not envision a delimited ord…
