  • Injuries Among Older Americans With and Without Medicare

David E Clark, Michael A DeLorenzo et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2005•References: 18

Objectives. We evaluated the generalizability of Medicare fee-for-service data for patients hospitalized with injuries. Methods. We used 1998–2000 Medicare hospitalization data and National Hospital Discharge Survey (NHDS) data to analyze patients aged 65 years and older with principal injury diagnoses. Results. Demographics and injury patterns were similar in Medicare data and NHDS Medicare data. Injured patients without Medicare or health maint…

  • The Impact of Economic Opportunity, Amenities and Fiscal Factors on Age‐specific Migration Rates

Open Access•David Clark, David E Clark et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Regional Science•1992

Migration models have considered several different categories of determinants, including economic opportunities, amenities, and state and local fiscal factors. Migration has also been shown to depend on the individual's position in the life cycle. This paper represents a first attempt to integrate all three categories of determinants of migration into a life‐cycle framework. Empirical findings generated from a countrywide model of white male migr…

  • Trauma as a symptom of alcoholism

Open Access•David E Clark, Shogo Takegawa et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Emergency Medicine•1985

In the late 1990s the Korean government made many welfare expansion reforms, while Japanese government adopted the retrenchment social policy. This contrast implies that Welfare Orientalism should come to an end. Uncritical adoption of regime theory to non-European countries has many problems. In order to understand the Japan welfare state regime exactly, I propose the definition of welfare state welfare state as national goal (welfare politics),…

  • Weathering of Thermally Altered Prehistoric Stone Implements

    Barbara A Purdy, David E Clark•ARTICLE•Lithic Technology•1979•Cited by: 1

Many of the tools used by prehistoric man were thermally altered prior to manufacture. This treatment made it easier to shape the stone and provided superior performance from the completed artifact. This investigation shows the effects of thermal alteration on the weathering rate of Florida Chert. Infrared reflection spectroscopy is used to monitor the extent of weathering and to illustrate alterations on the chert surface due to heating

  • Electron Microprobe Analysis of Weathered Florida Chert

    Open Access•David E Clark, Barbara A Purdy•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1979•Cited by: 2•References: 8

Underlying paleo-Indian period artifacts, deeply weathered chert implements have been recovered in Florida from a sandy clay horizon heretofore considered culturally sterile. Although the stratigraphic position of the stone implements in the sandy clay deposit has been demonstrated without question, dating has been a problem because no carbon-containing material has been preserved. Thus experiments were undertaken to investigate the environmental…

  • The field as 'habitus: Reflections on inner and outer dialogue

    Open Access•David E Clark•ARTICLE•Anthropology Matters•1970•Cited by: 1•References: 2

While Clifford (1997) regards fieldwork as a key marker of the discipline of anthropology itself, notions concerning fieldwork have undergone considerable change over the last decades. This paper elaborates on Clifford’s suggestion that fieldwork practice constitutes what Bourdieu terms as habitus and examines some of the key elements of what that practice might be. The discussion interweaves a theoretical analysis with descriptions of my own tho…
