  • Peer health coach experiences promoting a nondiet approach in a university health coaching program

Open Access•Sae-Mi Lee, Janaina Lima Fogaça et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education•2024

Purpose Research shows peer health education programs on university campuses can support students in pursuing sustainable health-related behavior changes. However, few programs deliver peer health education through a nondiet, weight-inclusive framework. Research shows that health educators who challenge the status quo of diet culture and weight-focused health interventions may face unique challenges when sharing this perspective with others. Thus…

  • Addressing Weight Stigma in Perinatal Care

  • University peer health coaches’ perceptions of learning and applying motivational interviewing

Open Access•Janaina Lima Fogaça, Sae-Mi Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education Journal•2023

Introduction: Peer-led health coaching is a realistic and sustainable way to support health behaviour change on university campuses. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an effective framework to guide behaviour change conversations in peer health coaching sessions. However, research on the perceptions of peer coaches who provide health coaching using MI is scarce. Objective: The aims of this study were to examine (1) university peer health coaches’…

  • Examination of three-factor eating questionnaire subscale scores on weight loss and weight loss maintenance in a clinical intervention

    Open Access•Natalie Papini, Rachel N S Foster et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2022

Dietary restraint is a unique eating behavior associated with weight loss at 6 months beyond other eating behaviors measured by the TFEQ in an adult sample enrolled in a weight loss intervention. No other subscale scores were significant at 6 months or at 18 months. Future research should consider how to promote flexible control and discourage adoption of rigid restraint behaviors since the latter is associated with disordered eating patterns

  • Patterns of Weight Change in a Commercial Weight Loss Program

Open Access•Heontae Kim, Taeyeon Oh et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Health Behavior•2021

Objectives: In this study, we examined compliance and progress factors associated with weight loss and maintenance, individual patterns of weight trends following weight loss, and impact of early weight loss on longer-term weight change. Methods: We conducted secondary analysis of pre-post data. Participants were 8769 persons (mean age = 47.63 ± 13.78 years; 77.74% women; mean weight = 97.20 ± 22.82 kilograms; BMI = 34.09 ± 6.84) in a commercial …

  • Rasch calibration of the 25-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale

Open Access•Natalie Papini, Minsoo Kang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 41

Rasch modeling was used to examine the 25-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale within adults ( n = 410) in a weight management program. Rasch analysis assessed model-data fit, item difficulty and person's resilience level, an item-person map to evaluate relative distribution items and persons, and rating scale function. Four misfit items were identified and removed. Item difficulty ranged from 1.25 to 1.19 logits (higher logit values indicate mo…
