  • The 'Southern Subculture of Violence' Thesis and Patterns of Gun Ownership

    James F O''Connor, James O’connor et al.•ARTICLE•Social Problems•1978•Cited by: 38•References: 15

This thesis has been questioned by Loftin and Hill (1974) and Erlanger (1975) who show that situational and structural factors could account for regional differences in interpersonal viol…

  • A Logarithmic Technique for Decomposing Change

    Open Access•James F O''Connor, James F O'Connor•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•1977•Cited by: 5•References: 6

Building upon informal practices, this paper describes a logarithmic technique for decomposing change in a quantity which is assumed to be the product of several factors. Using logs, one can decompose change expressed as a ratio and allocate the change to changes in the factors. The technique is appropriate for examining change in a quantity which is assumed to be the product of several factors; in such situations this technique is much easier to…

  • Leadership and Organizational Performance: A Study of Large Corporations

    Stanley Lieberson, James F O''Connor et al.•ARTICLE•American Sociological Review•1972•Cited by: 85•References: 3

The leadership effect is viewed here as a product of an organization's environmental constraints and its leadership variance. Based on sales, earnings, and profit margin data for 167 large corporations over twenty years, we compare the impact of leader…
