Patterns of Political Transnationalism of American Citizens Abroad in the Context of the 2024 Elections: Evidence from Southern Europe
The U.S. State Department estimates that 9 million nationals live abroad, with the American presence in the Iberian Peninsula growing sharply since 2015. In Spain, the U.S. population in 2024 stood at 138% of its 2020 level, while in Portugal it had reached 439% of its 2020 level. These communities, increasingly significant in size and organization, have become active sites of partisan mobilization during U.S. electoral cycles. This article exami…
This article quantitatively analyses political transnationalism among Swiss citizens in Latin America through civic competence indicators. Using multivariate techniques (OVERALS and HJ-Biplot), it explores the links between sociodemographic and migratory variables and political behavior. The findings of a sample of 539 valid responses reveal a strong civic predisposition but limited electoral engagement, partially supporting the political exposur…
Flipped and Non-Flipped Teaching Formats in a Political Science Class: Detecting Patterns of Students’ Soft Skills and Academic Achievement in an Experimental Single-Group Design
This article assesses the effectiveness of two active learning formats –a fully flipped and a semi-traditional one – for students’ soft skills, such as critical thinking, teamwork, self-efficacy, and learning perception, and for students’ achievement measured in terms of grades. To measure the impact on the soft skills, it uses a Wilcoxon test, with the goal of comparing the evolution of each soft skill in the flipped and semi-traditional formats…
The world is aging as the population has fewer children and lives longer. This situation poses numerous challenges in several countries, not only to maintain stable population levels but also the standards of economic growth. In this context, migrations are presented as a possible solution by collaborating in maintaining welfare systems and vegetative balances of the increasingly aging countries. Argentina is no stranger to this reality. Projecti…
Developing Students’ “Soft Skills” through the Flipped Classroom: Evidence from an International Studies Class
The goal of this study is to evaluate the application of the flipped classroom (FC) format in the international studies curriculum. Previous research has examined the impact of the FC on students’ performance, operationalized by test scores, and demonstrated the utility of this technique in the learning process. Our research goes beyond student performance to evaluate the impact of the FC on student class attendance and the development of a set o…
Flipping the Classroom in Political Science: Student Achievement and Perceptions
The flipped-classroom method is acquiring importance as a pedagogical technique to improve the learning performance of students. So far, most studies have examined the possible applications of the flipped-classroom method in the natural sciences realm, with most analyses certifying its positive impact. Its has been applied much less frequently in the social sciences realm, particularly in political science. Our project aims to generate data about…
Corruption in the public sector is an elusive and obscure phenomenon. Government’s reaction to disasters constitutes a favorable opportunity for nepotism, embezzlement and other criminal situations due to the investment in economic resources that it implies. The detection of these scenarios requires sophisticated methodologies that should be incorporated into disaster risk management processes. The use of corruption risk maps has been extended to…
