The significance of the gateways on the outskirts of the Odra (Oder) river drainage basin for early medieval communication routes
Gateways on waterways play a special role, providing links to neighbouring river drainage basins and their communities. In addition to inter-regional as well as local communication, water links were also of strategic and economic importance. The main objective of this study is to characterise the most important gateways connecting the Odra (Oder) drainage basin area with neighbouring areas in terms of their potential for communication and transpo…
Coastal flooding in Kołobrzeg (Kolberg) area, southern Baltic Sea, in the light of historical and geological data
The Baltic Sea is not a typical tsunami area, but there are reports of coastal flooding, with its traces preserved in deposits from Germany, Finland and Sweden, and more recently from Poland. In this study an attempt was made to verify historical and legendary accounts of the ‘Sea Bear’ (‘der Seebär’) phenomenon. In the descriptions of folk accounts, the phenomenon has the features such as suddenness, speed, short duration, independence from the …
Religious Fundamentalism and Perception of Group Norms as Predictors of Radical Action Intention
We aimed at exploring the interplay between fundamentalism and perception of group norms in predicting willingness to join radical group actions. We conducted three studies in two countries to examine the relationship between religious fundamentalism (RF), general religiosity, and support for radical actions on behalf of various social movements. Three studies (N1 = 305, N2 = 251, and N3 = 137) show positive relation between religious fundamental…

The marketplace landscape in Santok in the 8 th –9 th century, NW Poland
The results of archaeological research carried out on the early medieval stronghold in Santok prove that from the 2 nd half of the 8 th century it functioned in the contact zone between Baltic trade centres and inland, as one of the points in the network of goods exchange. We present the centre in a broader context, not only from the perspective of discovered artefacts but from the natural and ideological elements of the landscape of this place c…
Evaluation of Work Mode and Its Importance for Home–Work and Work–Home Relationships
The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated and facilitated the introduction of telework in organizations. This has also impacted the workers' relationship between work and private life. The aim of the current study was to examine the links between resilience and mode of work (stationary vs. remote) and the work-home and home-work relationships, and whether they are mediated by passion for work and strategies of coping with stress. The study was carried o…
Resilience, Occupational Stress, Job Satisfaction, and Intention to Leave the Organization among Nurses and Midwives during the Covid-19 Pandemic
The current study on the intention to leave the organization among nurses and midwives aligns with the broader direction of research on the consequences of demanding jobs. This is particularly important in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in 2020 and is ongoing. The aim of the current study was to identify the levels of intention to leave the organization and job satisfaction in a sample of 390 Polish nurses and midwives. A multi…
Insomnia among Prison Officers and Its Relationship with Occupational Burnout
Thus far, data on sleep disorders among prison officers (POs) have been scarce. Research allows us to relate this problem to occupational stress, which POs experience every day. The aim of the current study was to analyze the scale, predictors, and impact of select factors on the relationship between insomnia and occupational burnout. This study was carried out on a sample of 376 Indonesian and 288 Polish POs using the Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS)…
Geoarchaeological studies in the early medieval Santok stronghold (north‐western Poland)
Santok played a strategic socio‐political role in the Early Middle Ages. It is situated at the confluence of two large rivers (Warta and Noteć) on the boundary of historical regions in north‐western Poland. The stronghold in Santok is located on a sandy elevated floodplain with frequent floods in the immediate vicinity of the morainic plateau. The geological and engineering conditions within the stronghold were complex, making it a very difficult…
Work Engagement among Prison Officers. The Role of Individual and Organizational Factors in the Polish and Indonesian Penitentiary Systems
The literature on work engagement among prison officers (POs) remains rather scarce, and there are no analyses on the factors determining this phenomenon. The current study aimed to examine the relationships between work engagement, subjective well-being, coping strategies, and organizational factors utilizing the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9), the Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced (COPE), and Cantril's Ladder of Health Scale (C…
