  • Physical and Cultural Associations on the Louisiana Coast

    Herbert R Padgett•ARTICLE•Annals of the Association of…•1969

For the past several decades, expanding technology and the resulting standardization have caused a blurring of the distinctive man-environment relationships throughout the world. The physical-cultural associations of a deltaic coast such as that of Louisiana, however, are more pronounced and resistant to change, although changes have occurred and are occurring. These close associations are especially apparent in economy, settlement pattern, port …

  • Some Physical and Biological Relationships to the Fisheries of the Louisiana Coast

    Herbert R Padgett•ARTICLE•Annals of the Association of…•1966•References: 7

Mississippi River alluviation has provided Louisiana with a deltaic coast which contrasts sharply with the remainder of the Gulf littoral. Salient differences lie in coast configuration, hydrographic patterns, water chemistry, sediments, and vegetation. Although the species of marine life are largely the same here as elsewhere in the Gulf area, their ecology is closely governed by and geared to the highly fluctuating deltaic environment. The mud …

  • The Sea Fisheries of the Southern United States

    Open Access•Herbert R Padgett•ARTICLE•Geographical Review•1963•Cited by: 2

D EVELOPMENT of the natural resources of the southern United States, except farmland, has been slow as compared with that in other sections of the country. However, recognition and exploitation of the many natural assets of the South-minerals, water resources, forests, climate (tourism), and fisheries, to name the more significant oneshave finally come about. Fisheries are last on this list, and that is where they belong. Although the fisheries h…
