  • Exploring the Mediating Role of Productivity in the Shock-Happiness Relationship in Myanmar

Open Access•Nandar Aye Chan, Orkhan Sariyev et al.•ARTICLE•Social Indicators Research•2026

Though the literature has explored the impact of shocks on agriculture, less attention has been given to their effects on farmers’ happiness and the mediating role of productivity. • Can Weight of Evidence Method Improve Poverty Targeting

Open Access•Be Thanh Duong, Orkhan Sariyev et al.•ARTICLE•Social Indicators Research•2025•References: 3

Open Access•Nandar Aye Chan, Orkhan Sariyev et al.•ARTICLE•Development in Practice•2025•References: 38

Gender equality in agriculture is crucial to ensuring food security and economic development. This study provides new empirical evidence of the gender gap in rice productivity from the Ayeyarwady Delta, Myanmar. The Oaxaca–Blinder decomposition reveals that seasonality affects the gender disparity in productivity. Women managers are 7 per cent less productive than men in monsoon paddy production, with 95 per cent of this gap explained by structur…

    Open Access•Orkhan Sariyev, Manfred Zeller•ARTICLE•Social Sciences & Humanities Open•2023

Growing efforts to achieve improved family poultry signify the importance of adoption and livelihood impact studies of crossbred poultry in Ethiopia. We employ the second panel Ethiopian Socioeconomic Survey (ESS) to study the determinants of crossbred poultry adoption and its significance for household well-being. Results show that female poultry managers, constrained in other productive livelihood options, are more likely to adopt crossbred pou…

  • On- and Off-Farm Diversification and Travel Time to Markets: Linkages to Food Security in Rural Ethiopia

    Open Access•Sven Bergau, Tim K Loos et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Development…•2021•References: 8

Food insecurity persists in large parts of Ethiopia. Recent literature suggests that both on-farm and off-farm diversification, as well as access to agricultural markets, may help improve household dietary diversity scores (HDDS) as an indicator for food and nutrition security. While the HDDS is frequently used, a diversity score for the production side has rarely been applied at a comparable level of (dis-)aggregation. Employing socio-economic d…
