  • The functional ambivalence of mental symptoms: Organizational and temporal dimensions of dysfunction in Enactive Psychiatry

Mayo Pinto Candenas, Luz Candenas et al.•ARTICLE•Philosophical Psychology•2026

This paper introduces the concept of the functional ambivalence of mental symptoms as a contribution to Enactive Psychiatry. Drawing on the autonomy-centered foundations of the enactive approach, we argue that mental disorders are not purely dysfunctional, but complex, multi-scale patterns of organization that can display functional and dysfunctional aspects at once. Functionality is understood as graded and context-dependent, emerging from inter…

  • Chances and Propensities in Evo-Devo

Open Access•Laura Nuño De La Rosa, Cristina Villegas•ARTICLE•The British Journal for the…•2022•Cited by: 3•References: 45

While the notion of chance has been central in discussions over the probabilistic nature of natural selection and genetic drift, its role in the production of variants on which populational sampling takes place has received much less philosophical attention. This article discusses the concept of chance in evolution in the light of contemporary work in evo-devo. We distinguish different levels at which randomness and chance can be defined in this …

  • A causal dispositional account of fitness

Open Access•Vanesa Triviño, Vanessa Triviño et al.•ARTICLE•History & Philosophy of the Life…•2016•Cited by: 3

Open Access•Laura Nuño De La Rosa, Arantza Etxeberria•ARTICLE•ENDOXA•2010
