Perception versus Reality: An Exploration of Children's Measured Body Mass in Relation to Caregivers' Estimates
This study investigated the relationship between parents' reports, as compared with our obtained measurements, of their children's body status. Separate body mass index (BMI) scores were calculated based on: (1) parents' report of their children's height and weight, and (2) children's measured height and weight. Results indicate that parents' perceptions of their children's body status reliably varied from the scores obtained from our measurement…

Traversing the Mexican Odyssey: Reflections on Political Change and the Study of Mexican Politics
This essay explains how the peculiar properties of Mexico's political system helped shape the approach to the study of Mexican politics. It assesses some of the strengths and limitations of the scholarship this produced, examines the political changes that fueled Mexico's democratic transition, and assesses their implications both for Mexico's recent market reforms and the study of Mexican politics in general. Learning the Limits of Power: Privatization and State-Labor Interactions in Mexico
Despite repeated conflict with organized labor, the government of Carlos Salinas de Gortari (1988-94) pushed an aggressive divestment agenda that transformed Mexico into Latin America's leading privatizer. Explanations of Salinas's achievements typically emphasize centralized presidential power (including control over the ruling party) and autonomy; technocratic and political savvy; and weak labor opposition. Freshwater archaeology: A legal perspective in England and Wales
We study non-linear dynamics and bifurcation behavior of a pendulum with position and velocity feedback control. The pendulum is assumed to be driven by a servo-motor to which electromotive force proportional to both the difference of the pendulum position from the desired one and to the pendulum velocity is applied.
