  • Social Background, Academic Resources, and College Graduation

Karl L Alexander, Cornelius Riordan et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Education•1982•Cited by: 7

Using the 1979 follow-up wave of the National Longitudinal Survey data, this paper examines rates of completion of a baccalaureate degree according to two categories of individual characteristics: social background factors (specifically, race, gender, and socioeconomic status) and academic resources at the time of secondary school graduation (specifically, scores on a standardized academic test, class rank, and curriculum). The paper first descri…

  • Collinearity, Ridge Regression, and Investigator Judgment

    Open Access•James Fennessey, Ronald D''Amico et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•1980•Cited by: 5•References: 27

Several recent articles have suggested that ridge regression may provide an 'optimal' procedure for dealing with the problems created by highly collinear regressors in linear models. In this article, we review the consequences of collinearity among the regressors in a well-specified structural equation model and the several variants of ridge regression that may be considered as possible responses to such collinearity. Based on thts review and on …

  • The General Linear Model

    James Fennessey•ARTICLE•American Journal of Sociology•1968•Cited by: 13

This paper presents an attempt to explicate some common features of several superficially diverse techniques of data analysis and to indicate how the logic of a single abstract model is relevant to each. The specific purposes are: (1) to show in a relatively intuitive fashion the mathematical relationship between analysis of variance, regression analysis, and analysis of covariance, as special cases of the general linear model: (2) to suggest typ…
