Toward a Composite Index of Criminality
A provisional but largely successful empirical model is presented which scales the relative seriousness of prior criminal records, reflecting the daily judgements of a large number of practising prosecutors on how they pragmatically rate the seriousness of criminal records. A Multivariate Analysis of Female Extramarital Coitus
This paper is based on responses from 2,262 married women. The data are analyzed by Automatic Interaction Detection (AID), a method to uncover a set of independent variables that best predict the value of a criterion variable (whether or not the women had extramarital sexual intercourse). The variables that emerged as important were the ones related to evaluation of marriage, sexual preferences or life styles. Four types of women were distinguish…

Exposure to pornography: An exploratory study
The contributions of sociologists to the understanding of pornography have been extremely small. The first major non-empirical statement by a sociologist is by Ned Polsky (1967), and about the only empirical work is contained in the Kinsey volumes on the female (Kinsey, 1953) and sex offenders (Gebhard, 1965). An Evaluation of the Lander Approach to Ecology of Delinquency
A review of Bernard Lander's ecological study of delinquency and several replications of the study has led us to question the usefulness of further studies employing the statistical techniques of Lander.
