Experiences of people with prediabetes in a self-compassion and physical activity intervention
Having a Type 2 Diabetes risk (i.e. prediabetes) is a call to action for health behaviour change. Physical activity can reduce one’s diabetes risk, but difficult emotions, stigma, and lack of support can prevent people with prediabetes from getting active. Self-compassion is a psychological resource that may help people cope with prediabetes and increase their physical activity. The MOVE IT program is an 8-week videoconferencing intervention that…

Social prescribing is a health and social model of care which is emerging globally. It is a multifaceted intervention shaped by various contextual factors that can affect its implementation. Our aim was to describe community connectors’ (link workers or navigators) perceptions and experiences delivering social prescribing programs, with a particular interest in identifying implementation factors or themes. Participatory Member Checking
Member checking is a technique which aims to increase the trustworthiness or rigour of qualitative research by asking participants to comment on study findings. However, traditional methods of member checking (e.g., transcript reviews) face scrutiny for being ineffective or tokenistic ways of eliciting participant feedback. Emerging member checking approaches seek to evoke feedback in more meaningful ways. While these alternatives have merit, per…
A rapid systematic review of the effect of health or peer volunteers for diabetes self-management
Social prescribing is a model of care, usually in the community-setting, which aims to address people’s unmet social needs. Volunteers support primary health care and community-based care in non-medical roles. However, few studies focus on volunteers in social prescribing, therefore, aimed to synthesize the effect of health or peer volunteer-led interventions on psychosocial and behavioural outcomes for middle-aged and older adults with Type 2 Di…
The Use of Arts‐Based Methods to Enhance Patient Engagement in Health Research
Elevating the Uses of Storytelling Methods Within Indigenous Health Research
There is a profoundly troubling history of research being done on Indigenous peoples without regard for their priorities and accompanying calls to decolonize health research. Storytelling methods can privilege Indigenous voices in research. Indigenous people’s knowledge systems have existed for millennium, where knowledge is produced and shared through stories. Our collaborative team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous researchers, and Indigenous El…
A Virtual, Multi-Session Workshop Model for Integrating Patient and Public Perspectives in Research Analysis and Interpretation
The importance and value of engaging patients and the public as co-researchers (i.e., 'patient engagement in research') is becoming more evident, and guiding methods must be available for researchers conducting their work at different points along the engagement spectrum. This article provides a virtual workshop model for integrating patient and public stakeholder perspectives in data analysis and interpretation. The model is based upon a critica…
The Impact of Spouse’s Illness on Depressive Symptoms
The findings suggest variations across health condition types and gender. Relationship quality and caregiving are important contexts moderating the negative impact of spousal chronic illness on depression. Health care providers should be aware that spouses' health statuses are connected and that type of illness may affect the care context
