THE 1934 FLIN FLON STRIKE occurred largely as a reaction to the single enterprise nature of the community. The confrontation centred on the dominant position of the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company Ltd. (HBM&S) within the community. The struggle featured the striving for legitimacy of the Mine Workers' Union of Canada (MWUC) and a Company orchestrated, anti-communist crusade.
