  • Acceleration and Recursion in AI-Mediated Qualitative Research: Discussing Adapted Criteria for Qualitative Inquiry in the Techno-Epistemic Age

    Open Access•F Meyer, J Miggelbrink et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2026

This article examines how artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes qualitative research (QR) by accelerating the circulation of classifications and introducing recursive feedback loops that reuse their own outputs. Drawing on Hacking’s concept of looping effects, we extend it through two mechanisms: acceleration (compressed loop time) and recursion (output re-entry). Reviewing current AI uses in QR, data synthesis, and retrieval, we identify four ep…

    J Miggelbrink, F Meyer•ARTICLE•Geopolitics•2023•References: 41

More than 25 years after Dayton Peace Accords (DPA), the shadows of the Yugoslav and of the subsequent construction of independent states based on ethnic division still looms over Bosnia & Hercegovina (BiH), its population, and the everyday life of people. The construction of its two major political entities – the Federation of Bosnia & Hercegovina (FBiH) and the Republika Srpska (RS) – is reflected in the health care system where it unfolds high…

    Open Access•Nona Renner, J Miggelbrink et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Borderlands Studies•2022•Cited by: 4•References: 10

At the internal Schengen borders, integration has long been a guiding paradigm. Nevertheless, it has never been an uncontroversial value. During the COVID-19 pandemic, demands for border closures within the Schengen space were characterized by a new urgency driven by biopolitical attempts to safeguard the respective communities. Our article focuses on the East German border regions to Poland in this conflicting situation. In the light of this cri…

Based on the project 'Discourse and practices in shrinking regions', we analyse the subjective relevance of derogative discourses using the example of the district of Altenburger Land (Germany). The article combines three aspects: First, it focuses on how young people's representations of practices of social differentiation are informed by regionalised discourses about and conditions of shrinkage. Second, it identifies two rhetoric strategies by …

    J Miggelbrink•ARTICLE•Geographische Zeitschrift•2014

Geography has been interested in regions for a long time and thus developed and explored a wide range of concepts addressing the regional dimension of society. Against this background, the article discusses some of the impulses given by poststructuralist debates that have been explored in the field of new cultural geography/ Neue Kulturgeographie. Region are understood as concrete spatial forms that are produced within the realms of politics and …

  • Being in the Frontline of a Sámi Culture and a Private Business: Cross-Border Reindeer Herding in Northern Norway and Sweden

    Open Access•Peter Koch, J Miggelbrink•ARTICLE•Nomadic Peoples•2011•References: 4

This article investigates a conflict that loomed over the mutual use of pastures on either side of the border by various Sámi groups during the last decade. On the basis of a critical reading of Foucault, we analyse the identifications connected to different kinds of spaces that come up in the mediation of this conflict. Surprisingly, the notion of belonging to an indigenous people plays only a very limited role in this conflict. Being a Sámi and…

The authors hope to show the different connections between informal and formal activities an…

    J Miggelbrink, M Redepenning•ARTICLE•Geopolitics•2004•Cited by: 2

This article deals with the mid-1990s Standort Deutschland debate, which is considered to be a distinct semantic means for the reproduction of the nation-state. This debate serves as a starting point for further theorising what we will call spatial semantics. In addition, but also in difference to research focusing too narrowly on (re)organisational aspects of economic state crises, we propose a view that addresses the role and function of space-…
