This paper presents an analysis of second generation exogamy in the Kibbutzim in Israel. It combines and coordinates an elucidation of social system functions with a developmentalmotivational interpretation. Examination of this case study provides a crucial test of theories of mate selection. In addition it enables us to go beyond the specific problem of mate selection and deal with the more general theoretical problem of the relations between fu…
