Life Quality of Russian Immigrants to Israel: Patterns of Success and of Unsuccess
The Motivation to Volunteer: A Systemic Quality of Life Theory
Religious Influence in Electoral Behavior: The Role of Institutional and Social Forces in Israel
Religious group membership may affect political behavior through multiple paths of influence and may be engaged in different political contexts. This study first distinguishes between associationalism, a measure of commitment to formal religious organizations, and a communal dimension that entails immersion in social networks dominated by coreligionists. We then suggest that religious commitment, however conceived, may be harnessed either to part…
Interreligious conflict in Israel: The group basis of conflicting visions
Arab and Jewish Attitudes: Toward a Palestinian State
This article deals with the attitudes of Arabs and Jews in Israel regarding a Palestinian state. These include their images of such a state, the costs and benefits perceived if a Palestinian state were established, and the fears and desires involved, including the desire to keep contact with the Palestinian population in the various life domains. The article will attempt to analyze the extent to which the attitudes toward the establishment of a P…
The systemic life quality model: A basis for urban renewal evaluation
Factors influencing psychosocial adjustment to forced geographical relocation: The Israeli withdrawal from the Sinai
The evacuation of an Israeli community in the Sinai peninsula afforded an unusual opportunity to study the relationships among individual coping styles, social network characteristics, and parameters of psychosocial adjustment manifested by community residents immediately prior to their forced relocation. Key variables affecting adjustment are highlighted and directions for future research are suggested
Comparing structures of multi-dimensional scaling (SSA) (A response to Kashti's study and to Langeheine's critique)
A Structural Analysis of Achievement Orientation Derived from a Longitudinal Study of Students in Israeli Schools
The Guttman Smallest Space Analysis (SSA) was applied to 51 variables collected on 850 children in 48 Israeli schools, grades 4 through 9. Two alternative mapping sentences were derived for defining the concept achievement orientation. The two definitions fit the patterns of students of both Eastern and Western origin, but relations among the components of the structure were weaker for the Eastern group
Theory construction and data analysis in the behavioral sciences
Achievement Motive: A Faceted Definition And Structural Analysis
Facet technique is used to analyze contents of achievement motive questionnaire items proposed in recent years and to construct an explicit definition for achievement motive. The theoretical discussion provides the rationale for an hypothesis concerning the structure (i.e. classifications, ordering, dimensionality) of interrelationships among components of achievement motive. Using data from a sample of executive managers, the hypothesis is then …
A Smallest Space Analysis (Ssa) Of Potential Work Mobility
This paper introduces a new methodological approach-smallest space analysis-to the examination of potential work mobility. Operational definition of such mobility is introduced in terms of amounts and kinds of organizational and occupational incentives which might be offered to an employee. Then empirical data on system analysts in Israel are used to test the structure of the definition. The potential mobility with respect to both organization an…
The Inclination to Reimmigrate: A Structural Analysis of the Case of Israelis Residing in France and in the U.S.A
This study analyzes the structure of the relations between experiences in Israel and abroad, and expectations for the future in Israel as reported by Israelis residing in the U.S. and France. A facet definition of the inclination to reimmigrate to Israel is presented, and, on its basis, hypotheses are formulated regarding the relations between the definitional framework and the empirical observations. The results support the main hypotheses. An e…
Worries about Deprivation of Job Rewards Following Computerization: A Partial Order Scalogram Analysis
The introduction of a major change in an organization, like computerization, may be expected to raise some worries on the part of affected employees. Four sources of worries experienced by the employees of accounting departments are discussed: job security, job stability, job proficiency, and job interest. An empirical structure of these worries, based on scalogram technique, was found, and an interpretation for it is proposed. By the use of Part…
The gatekeeping to a profession: A structural analysis of the certified public accountancy examination situation
This paper attempts an empirical structuring of the process of selecting candidates for the profession of certified public accountancy (CPA). The unit of investigation is the ‘examination situation,’ which is defined as the multiple interaction among the attributes of an examinee, an examination problem he answers and the examiner who grades the answer. Using Guttman's smallest space analysis, a way of partitioning the empirical continuum of thos…
