The researcher wears gucci: Reflexive considerations of dress and embodiment in ethnographic research
This article offers a reflexive ethnographic account of how clothing shaped the author's fieldwork among Congolese refugees in Nairobi, Kenya. Prompted by a passing comment on her "baggy trousers," the author traces how her clothed body became both a site and method of inquiry, revealing how fashion mediates selfhood and knowledge production. Through efforts to begin to 'dress Congolese,' the author engaged in a process of sartorial and bodily tr…
Attitudes and personal beliefs about the Covid-19 vaccine among people with Covid-19: A mixed-methods analysis
Our results show that two of the three factors that drive vaccine hesitancy (complacency, and lack of confidence in the vaccines) are present among unvaccinated adults recently diagnosed with COVID-19. They also show that beliefs emphasizing the importance of the greater good promote public health participation

Health impact assessment of housing improvements: Incorporating research evidence: Table 1
Background: Health impact assessment (HIA) has been widely recommended for future social policies and investment, such as housing improvement. However, concerns have been raised about the utility and predictive value of an HIA. Use of existing research data would add more weight to forecasts by an HIA. Methods, results, and conclusions: A recent systematic review of housing intervention studies found a lack of research. The authors recommended th…
Arctic Environmental Change of the Last Four Centuries
A compilation of paleoclimate records from lake sediments, trees, glaciers, and marine sediments provides a view of circum-Arctic environmental variability over the last 400 years. From 1840 to the mid-20th century, the Arctic warmed to the highest temperatures in four centuries. This warming ended the Little Ice Age in the Arctic and has caused retreats of glaciers, melting of permafrost and sea ice, and alteration of terrestrial and lake ecosys…
The 'Developmental State' and the Newly Industrialised Economies of Asia
The renewed interest in the role of the state in economic growth and development has been focused on the four newly industrialised economies (NIEs) of Asia-Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan. Much of the recent literature tends to crowd these states into an undifferentiated model of the 'developmental state'. A closer examination reveals significant differences among them in terms of the state's relations to capital, labour, and the external…
Why Trust?—Introduction to the Issue
“It has been said that trust is ‘a device for coping with the freedom of others’, but the prime condition of requirements for trust is not lack of power but lack of full information” (Giddens 1990: 33)
