    Open Access•Enn Ernits•ARTICLE•The Yearbook of the Estonian…•2026

Artiklis käsitletakse Ingerimaa asustusnimesid. Need on vadja keelde jÃμudnud enamasti isuritelt ja soomlastelt kas muutumatult vÃμi vadjapärasteks mugandatuna. Peale nende on osa kohanimesid ebaselge lähtekujuga. Kirjutise esimeses osas käsitletakse läänemeresoomepäraseid läänemeresoome päritolu kohanimesid, teises osas aga venepäraseid läänemeresoome ja vene toponÃ1⁄4Ã1⁄4me. Autori eesmärkideks on a) aidata kaasa vÃμimalikult tervikliku pildi l…

  • Petseri nime päritolust

    Open Access•Enn Ernits•ARTICLE•Keel ja Kirjandus•2025

On the origin of the Estonian name Petseri There are several explanations for the origin of the name of the town of Petseri (Russian: Печоры) and its monastery (commonly referred to as Печерский монастырь). The author of this article is convinced that the name Petseri derives from the Old East Slavic word печера, meaning ‘cave’. The formation of the toponym is inspired by the sandstone cave, which is closely tied to the history of the Petseri mon…

Three of the 12 comonyms are undoubtedly based on personal names (Arseesaar ~ Arsija, FÃ1⁄4ötromaa, Kotko), but three toponyms (*Keik-, Ropsu and Vipija) may also have other origins, being connected to some nat…

Vadja toponüümikat on seni uurinud peamiselt Paul Ariste. Käesoleval sajandil on väheste toponüümide algupära käsitlenud üksnes Leningradi oblasti Kingissepa rajooni asjaarmastajad. Käesolevas kirjutises, mis lähtub peamiselt m…

The article gives an insight into the hagiology (Old Russian житие) of Alexander Nevsky (ca. 1220–1263), Grand Prince of Novgorod and Vladimir. It was probably put down in the 1280s, at the Nativity Monastery in Vladimir, where his body was initially buried and where, in the late 14th century, he was canonised.

In the second part of the research is treated the most important event of the adult life of Meandash - getting married. Marriage between a man and an animal is based on totemistic conceptions. The stories of Meandash finding a wife and marrying her can be divided into two or three Subgenres. Of the first, the author knows only three versions, of the second twelve versions, but of the third - unless it is a forage or a combination of occasions - o…

Artistic expression from the time prior to recorded history is called prehistoric art. It is very ancient indeed. Stone figurines dating back more than 100,000 years have been discovered in the surroundings of Hambur…
