A Ten-Value-Type Framework Associated With Spectator Sports: A Qualitative Inquiry
Prior value studies in sport settings have been focused on participation rather than spectatorship. This study is an initial step in examining the values associated with spectator sports. Interviews and focus groups were utilized in this qualitative study within four progressive phases for triangulation, transferability, and constant comparative assessment. I distributed a survey in central Taiwan to 890 people who watched a sporting event for at least 30 minutes per week. The results showed that the model I had developed was supported except that m…
Identifying Core, Exciting, and Hybrid Attributes in Fans' Assessments of Major (World Cup) Spectator Sports Events

Questionnaires tapping 16 attributes (e.g., teamwork, sportsmanship, level of competition) and 16 benefits (e.g., good mood, exciting experience, support for my favorite team) were distributed to a sample of fans at the …
The influence of cultural values on spectators' sport attitudes and team identification: An East-West perspective
The impacts of national cultural-value configurations on spectator sport attitudes and fan team identification were examined. The proposition was explored that associations among fans' sports attitudes and team identification are weaker in cultures with value systems centering on the pursuit of knowledge versus cultures centering on individual liberty and enjoyment of life. Surveys of comparable samples of college students were taken from 3 count…
An examination of values associated with sports attitude and consumption behavior: An exploratory study
Values associated with sports attitudes and consumption behavior were examined. Data were collected by an online survey questionnaire ( N = 3001), and one-way ANOVA was used. Results showed that people who spent money on attending/viewing events put more importance on sports than did those who did not spend money on such events. The consumption group was more likely than the nonconsumption group to enjoy taking risks. However, the non-consumption…
