Achievement Motive of Brazilian, Israeli and US Managers
The major objective of the study was to analyze the structure and relative strength of the achievement motive of managers from various cultural environments. The Achievement Motive Questionnaire (AMQ), devised to assess achievement tendencies of subjects from various cultural backgrounds, was applied. It was hypothesized that although the basic structure of the domain would be similar there would be differences in the relative strength of the ach…
Achievement motive and entrepreneurial orientation: A structural analysis
In this study we have attempted to assess the achievement motive of students of small business, considered as having high entrepreneurial orientations, and students of business and economics, considered as having lower entrepreneurial orientations. Based on a facet definition of achievement motive we analyzed the structure of achievement motive for both samples. As hypothesized, results reflected the three facets of achievement motive: type of co…

Work values: A theoretical overview and a model of their effects
Three main streams of research were identified in the field of work values. Based on a series of analyses using multidimensional techniques, the first set of studies attempted to identify the underlying factors or facets of the work values domain. A second group of investigations examined correlates of work values including antecedent and consequent variables. Finally, extensive research on differences in work values' pattern and level by culture…
The structure and strength of achievement motivation: A cross‐cultural comparison
An intercultural research project on achievement motivation was originated based on a multifaceted approach. The objective of this study was to analyze the structure of the achievement motive domain for samples from five countries: the United States, the Netherlands, Israel, Hungary, and Japan. We hypothesized that data collected from the various samples will reflect the basic facets suggested by the definitional framework of achievement motivati…

The structure of personal values: A conical representation of multiple life areas
The objective of the present study was to analyze the structure of personal values. Based on previous investigations, we proposed a multifaceted definition of values from various life areas (or domains). Structural hypotheses concerning the relationships between the definitional framework and empirical observations were formulated. Using data obtained from two samples of Israeli respondents (153 business students and 146 computer personnel), the …

Work Values and Job Satisfaction
Work Values and Job Satisfaction
In reviewing work values and job satisfaction questionnaires one may find similar items included in both. It is argued that the item range (important to unimportant, satisfied to dissatisfied) defines the research problem rather than the item domain, and so the same item domain may be included in both questionnaires
Work and nonwork relations: The conical structure of work and home life relationship
The major objective of the present study was to analyze the structure of work‐nonwork relations. A definitional framework of the work‐nonwork domain was first suggested, based on the extant literature. The definition was then empirically tested by applying Similarity Structure Analysis to analyze the data, collected from a sample of 106 Israeli workers. The results support the hypotheses of the study. An empirical double ordered conceptual system…
The structure of work values: A cross cultural comparison
Several years ago a research project on work values was originated. The study strived to examine the relative importance of work value items and to analyze the structure of the domain for samples from various cultural environments. A facet definition of work values was suggested that provided guidelines for constructing the Work Values Questionnaire and the formulation of hypotheses regarding the structure of relationships among components of wor…
Work and Nonwork Relations: A Facet Analysis
A definitional framework of the work/nonwork domain was suggested, based on the extant literature. The definition was tested empirically by applying Guttman's Smallest Space Analysis to a reanalysis of Rousseau's (1978) data. An empirical double-ordered conceptual system, a radex structure, was obtained, reflecting the two facets of the definition: behavior modality (instrumental, affective, and cognitive) and life areas (work, nonwork). The face…
Achievement motive: A reconceptualization and new instrument
A questionnaire based on a facet definition of achievement motive was devised to assess achievement tendencies amongst managers. The facet definition provided guidelines for the creation of items and the formulation of hypotheses concerning the structural relations among components of achievement motive. The questionnaire was then administered to a sample of 190 middle managers in a large industrial corporation in Israel. As hypothesized, results…

Facet Analysis of Ethnic Identity: The Case of Israelis Residing in the United States
An attempt was made to define the facets of ethnic identity and to analyze its structure. Based on analysis of previous studies a systematic definition of ethnic identity in terms of its component facets was proposed, which facilitated the systematic construction of questionnaire items and the formulation of hypotheses regarding the relationship between the definitional framework and the empirical observations. Data were collected from a sample o…
The Inclination to Reimmigrate: A Structural Analysis of the Case of Israelis Residing in France and in the U.S.A
This study analyzes the structure of the relations between experiences in Israel and abroad, and expectations for the future in Israel as reported by Israelis residing in the U.S. and France. A facet definition of the inclination to reimmigrate to Israel is presented, and, on its basis, hypotheses are formulated regarding the relations between the definitional framework and the empirical observations. The results support the main hypotheses. An e…
Worries about Deprivation of Job Rewards Following Computerization: A Partial Order Scalogram Analysis
The introduction of a major change in an organization, like computerization, may be expected to raise some worries on the part of affected employees. Four sources of worries experienced by the employees of accounting departments are discussed: job security, job stability, job proficiency, and job interest. An empirical structure of these worries, based on scalogram technique, was found, and an interpretation for it is proposed. By the use of Part…
