  • Qualitative assessment of a virtual cardiovascular medical education program in Haiti

Open Access•Marwa Ilali, Virginie Clavel et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Medical Education•2026

BACKGROUND: Haiti faces challenges in accessing equitable healthcare and medical education due to limited resources. Cardiovascular disease burden is high, necessitating a well-trained cardiovascular workforce. The International Cardiology Curriculum Accessible by Remote Distance Learning (ICARDs) program, launched in 2019, addresses this need by providing virtual cardiovascular education. This study aimed to explore the perceptions and experienc…

  • A 7,000 years trajectory of socio-ecosystems in the montane belt of the northern French Alps

Open Access•Andréa Julien, Erwan Messager et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Environmental…•2025

Introduction This study, conducted on the Plateau des Glières, in the northern French Alps, investigates the evolution of vegetation composition over the past 7000 years. This site, within a montane ecosystem, offers a new opportunity to understand the human and landscape interactions under the influence of climate. To study these interactions as a whole and by integrating their complexity, we used two conceptual frameworks: the agroecosystem and…

  • Impacts of anthropogenic eutrophication on the carbon transfers in lacustrine food webs

    Open Access•Valentin Essert, Laurent Millet et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2024•References: 5

Over the last decades, the intensification of anthropogenic activities and associated disturbances on lake watersheds have led to major changes in lakes trophic functioning through accelerated eutrophication. In many lakes, these changes are characterized by an unprecedented increase in organic carbon fluxes, potentially leading to a shift in biogeochemical cycles and in the balance between carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions. Under…

  • Legacy of early anthropogenic effects on recent lake eutrophication (Lake Bénit, northern French Alps)

Open Access•Manon Bajard, David Etienne et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropocene•2018•References: 73

  • One thousand seven hundred years of interaction between glacial activity and flood frequency in proglacial Lake Muzelle (western French Alps)

Open Access•Laurent Fouinat, Paul Sabatier et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2017

Local glacial fluctuations and flood occurrences were investigated in the sediment sequence of proglacial Lake Muzelle. Based on geochemical analysis and organic matter content established using loss on ignition and reflectance spectroscopy, we identified six periods of increased glacial activity over the last 1700 yr. Each is in accordance with records from reference glaciers in the Alps. A total of 255 graded layers were identified and interpre…

  • Ecological and human land-use indicator value of fungal spore morphotypes and assemblages

    Open Access•Élise Doyen, David Etienne•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2016•Cited by: 6•References: 7

  • Two thousand–year reconstruction of livestock production intensity in France using sediment-archived fecal Bacteroidales and source-specific mitochondrial markers

    Open Access•David Etienne, Mathilde Destas et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 4

The reconstruction of past pastoral activities based on microscopic methods (pollen and coprophilous fungal ascospores) does not accurately identify the domestic species involved. In contrast, source-specific DNA markers, commonly employed in water quality microbial source tracking (MST) studies, may represent a promising tool for retrospectively identifying species-specific fecal contamination in sediment deposition. In the present study, molecu…

  • Optimal counting limit for fungal spore abundance estimation using Sporormiella as a case study

    Open Access•David Etienne, Isabelle Jouffroy‐Bapicot et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2014•Cited by: 14•References: 9

  • Searching for ancient forests

    Open Access•David Etienne, Pascale Ruffaldi et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2013•Cited by: 4•References: 14

Evidence of the agricultural use, during Roman or Medieval times, of forested areas formerly considered to be ancient, as well as legacies of this former land use on plant biodiversity and soil properties, have encouraged the search for archives of former land use in forests. In central Lorraine (northeastern France), thousands of small closed depressions (CD) on marlstone have been inventoried in forests over the past 150 years, and we hypothesi…
