  • Directly dating postglacial Greenlandic land-surface emergence at high resolution using in situ 10 Be

    Open Access•Paul R Bierman, Dylan H Rood et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2018

Postglacial emergence curves are used to infer mantle rheology, delimit ice extent, and test models of the solid Earth response to changing ice and water loads. Such curves are rarely produced by direct dating of land emergence; rather, most rely on the presence of radiocarbon-datable organic material and inferences made between the age of sedimentary deposits and landforms indicative of former sea level. Here, we demonstrate a new approach, 10 B…

  • Agricultural land use doubled sediment loads in western China's rivers

    Open Access•Amanda H Schmidt, Veronica Sosa Gonzalez et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropocene•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 84

  • Unraveling rift margin evolution and escarpment development ages along the Dead Sea fault using cosmogenic burial ages

Open Access•Ari Matmon, David Fink et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2014

The Dead Sea fault (DSF) is one of the most active plate boundaries in the world. Understanding the Quaternary history and sediments of the DSF requires investigation into the Neogene development of this plate boundary. DSF lateral motion preceded significant extension and rift morphology by ~10 Ma. Sediments of the Sedom Formation, dated here between 5.0 ± 0.5 Ma and 6.2 −2.1 + inf Ma, yielded extremely low 10 Be concentrations and 26 Al is abse…

  • Long-term talus flatirons formation in the hyperarid northeastern Negev, Israel

Open Access•Ronen Boroda, Ari Matmon et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2013

Colluvial sediments of talus relicts (“talus flatirons”) around mesas preserve a record that sheds light on slope-forming processes at temporal scales > 10 3 yr. The sedimentology and soil stratigraphy of two groups of talus flatirons in the northeastern hyperarid Negev desert reveal four deposition events in the younger talus and at least two in the older one. Numerical modeling of high-resolution 10 Be depth profiles suggests that these taluses…

  • The deglacial history of NW Alexander Island, Antarctica, from surface exposure dating

    Open Access•Joanne S Johnson, Jez Everest et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2012

Recent changes along the margins of the Antarctic Peninsula, such as the collapse of the Wilkins Ice Shelf, have highlighted the effects of climatic warming on the Antarctic Peninsula Ice Sheet (APIS). However, such changes must be viewed in a long-term (millennial-scale) context if we are to understand their significance for future stability of the Antarctic ice sheets. To address this, we present nine new cosmogenic 10 Be exposure ages from sit…

  • Cosmogenic nuclide exposure ages for moraines in the Lago San Martin Valley, Argentina

    Open Access•Neil F Glasser, Krister N Jansson et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2011

At several times during the Quaternary, a major eastward-flowing outlet glacier of the former Patagonian Ice Sheet occupied the Lago San Martin Valley in Argentina (49°S, 72°W). We present a glacial chronology for the valley based on geomorphological mapping and cosmogenic nuclide ( 10 Be) exposure ages ( n = 10) of boulders on moraines and lake shorelines. There are five prominent moraine belts in the Lago San Martin Valley, associated with exte…
