A Geomorphometric Approach to Estimate the Deterioration of Earthen Archaeological Sites by Rainfall and Diffusion Processes
Rain‐induced erosion processes can severely damage Earthen archaeological sites. Huaca Chornancap (HCH; eighth–14th century ad ) is a platform located in the Lambayeque region (Peru) exposed to seasonal rain due to El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO). We present data from a UAV‐based photogrammetric survey and produce a Digital Surface Model from which we compute selected morphometric parameters. Rills and gullyes affect the HCH steep flanks, whe…
Quantitative estimate of the damages from human activities at the Apurlec Monumental Archaeological Complex (7th-14th century AD, Peru) from multitemporal photogrammetry
Theory and practice for an object-based approach in archaeological remote sensing
Current Research in Egyptology 2017
This publication is the result of a multidisciplinary research realized by an international team of scholars of the University of Padua, with the Museum of Archaeological Sciences and Arts (since now MSA), the “Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere e Arti” in Venice (since now IVSLA), the Trent University in Canada and the Museo Egizio in Turin. Its focus is the study of Carlo Anti’s life and activities in Egypt, especially related to the reconstruc…
Image processing and analysis of radar and lidar data
This contribution proposes an evaluation of lidar and radar data processing and its potential in revealing archaeological features within a level plain environment, the southern lowland of Verona (Italy), focusing on evidences dating back to the Bronze Age. Many archaeological sites in the research area, including some of the most outstanding settlements of Terramare Culture, were identified or at least examined through aerial photo observation. …
Object‐based Shell Craters Classification from LiDAR‐derived Sky‐view Factor
This paper presents the results of the first attempt to assess, identify and quantify the residual number of shell craters of World War I currently present in the Vezzena/Luserna/Lavarone Plateau, areas of Millegrobbe, Bisele and Cima Campo (Province of Trento, Italy). Historical sources report the existence of several thousand artillery explosions: therefore, a field survey or a classic photo‐interpretation would be labour‐intensive and highly t…
