Beyond Bibracte/Mont Beuvray
This paper presents a compositional study of red enamels applied to metal artefacts from Central Europe, spanning the La Tène period (4th − 1st centuries BCE) to the Roman period (1st − 3rd centuries AD). The dataset comprises 107 enamel samples from Bohemia, Moravia, south-western Slovakia, Lower Austria and Styria, complemented by reference material (11 samples) from the oppidum of Bibracte/Mont Beuvray (France), the only site in Europe with di…
Typological and production-technological study of selected finds decorated with the mosaic enamel technique in the 2nd–3rd century AD
The article focuses on a specific group of Roman Period finds from Bohemia with mosaic or millefiori enamel decorations. The study examines various artefacts, including disc fibulae, balteus fittings, glass beads, and a seal box, all identified as Roman-provincial imports. Disc fibulae adorned with millefiori enamel have been discovered throughout the Barbaricum, with notable concentrations in the Tisza and Elbe river regions. Although Roman-prov…

Enamelled Objects in the 2nd and 1st Centuries BC
This work is a comprehensive study of archaeological finds from Bohemia, Moravia, southwest Slovakia, and Lower Austria with enamel decoration from the 2nd to 1st century BC. Numerous artefacts decorated with enamel, almost exclusively red, come from the La Tène cultural sphere. Enamel is found especially on belts, horse harnesses and riding equipment, chariots, and decorative rivets. Regional and superregional groups of these artefacts were iden…
Characterisation of Jewellery with glass and garnet inlays from the Bohemian region and Great Migration Period
The research focuses on jewellery finds uncovered in the region of today's Czech Republic dated to the Great Migration Period. The metals and garnet inlays detected were examined with μ ‐EDXRF, whereas, for glass samples, LA‐ICP‐MS was used. The paper presented is supplemented with data concerning the technological processing of the jewellery (documented with optical microscopy) and information dealing with analogies to the artifacts studied. Bas…
Non-metallic decorative inlays in La Tène jewellery - contribution of archaeometry to the understanding of production technologies
The study provides a detailed investigation into several representatives of La Tène jewellery. Primarily, it deals with non-metallic decorative inlays from the Late La Tène period, particularly with their application on a metal base. Unique artefacts have been selected for the study, all coming from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. A prime representative of the finds is a torc coming from a La Tène burial site in Prague (Czech Republic, Central E…
