First evidence of hippopotamus ivory exchange networks in north-eastern Iberian Peninsula
This study examines a Late Neolithic-Chalcolithic ivory object (Véraza facies) found at the Bòbila Madurell settlement (Sant Quirze del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain). The main objective was to date the object and determine the provenance of the raw material. The radiocarbon analysis places it in the second quarter of the 3rd millennium BC. Modelling land and water based movement corridors in the Western Mediterranean
The transportation of Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age ivory raw materials and artefacts across the Mediterranean has been in the focus of archaeological research for over a century now. However, tracing the flow of ivory has mostly been restricted to traditional theoretical models of raw materials distribution deriving from socio-culturally centred considerations. Los objetos de adorno en marfil del yacimiento del Cerro de la Vírgen (Orce, Granada)
En el presente trabajo se ha estudiado la totalidad (31) de los objetos en marfil recuperados en el Cerro de la Virgen (Orce, Gramada) durante las intervenciones arqueológicas realizadas entre 1963 y 1970. Se ha llevado a cabo el estudio morfo-tipológico, la caracterización de la materia prima y el análisis traceológico.
