Open Access•Joanna Drath, Joanna Jarzęcka-Stąporek et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2023

The infamous Treblinka camp was one of numerous extermination camps throughout Poland, where Germans carried out mass killings of Jews. There were two camps in Treblinka, AL Treblinka I, a forced labor camp, and KL Treblinka II, the site of the extermination camp. Treblinka I held captives of various origins and ethnic backgrounds who were serving their sentences by working in a pre-existing gravel pit. Many of those prisoners perished in the cam…

  • Comparing Genetic Variation among Latin American Immigrants

Briana T New, New New et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2021•Cited by: 1

The humanitarian crisis on the US-Mexico border is a long-standing and evolving crisis in which nearly 8,000 deaths have been reported in the last two decades. These deaths are largely distributed across the Arizona-Mexico and Texas-Mexico border regions, where demographic trends for immigrants attempting to cross into the United States have shifted dramatically. The demographic change and volume of immigrants seeking shelter in the United States…

    Open Access•Katerina Delaporta, Marek E Jasinski et al.•ARTICLE•The International Journal of…•2006•Cited by: 3•References: 5

From 1999 to 2003 the project surveyed the sea-bed in selected areas in Greece in order to locate marine cultural remains in depths below 50 m that have not been explored by divers. The project has shown that it is possible to perform systematic large-area surveys in deeper waters using off-the-shelf equipment from available small ships, at relatively low cost with good results. © 2006 The Authors

Open Access•Fredrik Søreide, Marek E Jasinski et al.•ARTICLE•The International Journal of…•1998•Cited by: 2

In the past few years there has been an increased interest in deep water archaeology, and a growing number of archaeological institutions now use remote sensing equipment and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to locate and investigate deep water archaeological sites. The article presents some important projects that have been carried out around the world. These include Norwegian projects. In Trondheim Harbour several shipwrecks have been located …

  • Russian Hunters on Svalbard and the Polar Winter

    Open Access•Marek E Jasinski•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•1991

Ways of surviving in the High Arctic environment are among the most interesting problems addressed by archaeological research concerning hunting groups operating in these areas. The Svalbard archipelago affords a unique opportunity for comparative studies of arctic survival with respect to representatives from two different European cultural centers: the hunters from northern Russia and the western European whalers. The present paper concentrates…

  • The structure of the pomor settlement complex on the Schønningholmane site (Hornsund, West Spitsbergen) archaeological data

    Jan Chochorowski, Marek E Jasinski•ARTICLE•Acta Borealia•1988

This article is an attempt to develop a discussion within the archaeological world, with reference to a particular aspect of Russian hunting on Svalbard. In general, such a discussion is vital, because the written sources concerning the Russian activity on Svalbard are rather weak (as is frequently the case with areas on the periphery of cultural centers). Archaeology must therefore play an important role in the reconstruction of the archipelago'…
