The Social Iowa Gambling Task
Study findings indicate that adaptive social decision-making can predict abilities to detect deception perpetrated through lying and AI-based deepfakes. Results suggest that the ability to adapt under conflicting social cues appears central to resisting lies. As a brief, standardized, and scalable laboratory measure, the sIGT shows promise for identifying individual vulnerability to deception and guiding tailored intervention strategies

Interoceptive Accuracy Enhances Deception Detection in Older Adults
Interoceptive accuracy was associated with both lie detection and phishing detection accuracy among older adults. Our findings identify interoceptive accuracy as a potential protective factor for fraud susceptibility, as measured through difficulty detecting deception. These results support interoceptive accuracy as a relevant factor for consideration in interventions targeted at fraud prevention among older adults
Associations Between Loneliness and Cognitive Resilience to Neuropathology in Older Adults
Higher and increasing loneliness was associated with lower CR in the face of neuropathology. These results suggest that some individuals are less resilient to the accumulation of neuropathology than others, and experiencing high/increasing loneliness is a key factor putting some at risk. Interventions aimed at optimizing cognitive function across older adults should include loneliness reduction as a potential area of focus
Lower Levels of Directed Exploration and Reflective Thinking Are Associated With Greater Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety and depression are often associated with strong beliefs that entering specific situations will lead to aversive outcomes - even when these situations are objectively safe and avoiding them reduces well-being. Findings from this study highlight the impact of perceiver and facial characteristics on facial trustworthiness perception in adulthood and aging and have potential to inform first impression formation, with effects on trait attributions and behavior.
