  • The relationship between symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, and sluggish cognitive tempo with deficits in executive functioning in college students

    Open Access•Taylor Baumler, Sheila K Hanson et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2026

  • Confirmatory factor analysis of Beck Depression Inventory-II with two American Indian samples

    Open Access•Jacqueline S Gray, Thomas V Petros et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•2023

72). Measures of convergent validity and discriminant validity were below acceptability for both Sample 1 and Sample 2. The results of this study support the construct validity of the BDI-II in Northern Plains American Indians. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Psychometric evaluation of depression measures with Northern Plains Indians

Jacqueline S Gray, Julio Brionez et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•2019

Numerous psychometric measurements are used to assess for mental health problems in Native American and Alaskan Native (AI/AN) populations; however, few studies have been carried out to assess their validity and reliability within these populations. This study was designed to assess the validity and reliability of numerous measures among the Northern Plains Indians. This article is a partial report, focused on the psychometric measures directed a…

  • Assessment of anxiety among Northern Plains Indians

Jacqueline S Gray, John A McCullagh et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•2016

This study is an examination of the reliability and validity of the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI; Beck, Epstein, Brown, & Steer, 1988) in a sample of NPIs (N = 529). Validity was assessed by comparing BAI scores among 3 different diagnostic categories in a clinical sample (anxiety disorder, mood disorder, and comorbid anxiety/mood disorder diagnostic groups) and a community sample of participants with no self-reported mental health diagnoses. The …

  • Perceptions of Political Bias in the Headlines of Two Major News Organizations

    Open Access•Jeffrey N Weatherly, Thomas V Petros et al.•ARTICLE•Harvard International Journal of…•2007•Cited by: 5

Although claims of media bias are abundant, systematic and scientific investigations of potential biases are rare. The present study was an attempt to determine whether a perception of bias would be found in the headlines of lead or major stories taken from the Web sites of two major American news organizations, CNN and FOX News, during the final two months of the 2004 presidential campaign. Significant perceptions of bias were found. Overall, he…

  • The Role of Vocabulary Ability During Visual Word Recognition in Younger and Older Adults

Laura J Kitzan, F Richard Ferraro et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1999

The role that vocabulary ability plays in adult age differences in word recognition was investigated. In Experiment 1, 44 older adults (ages 61-93 years) were compared with 44 younger adults (ages 18-39 years) on a standard lexical-decision task, with ambiguous words, unambiguous words, and pseudowords serving as stimuli. In Experiment 1, the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R; D. Wechsler, 1981) vocabulary performance was uncontro…

  • The components of text that influence reading times and recall in skilled and less skilled college readers

    Thomas V Petros, Barb Bentz et al.•ARTICLE•Discourse Processes•1990•References: 19

The present study examined the components of text that predict reading times and recall in skilled and less skilled college readers. Skilled and less skilled college students read two narrative and two expository passages from a computer terminal at their own rate. The results demonstrated that skilled readers read faster and recalled more than did less skilled readers. The variance in reading times was largely accounted for by word‐decoding and …

  • Individual differences in the effects of time of day and passage difficulty on prose memory in adults

    Open Access•Thomas V Petros, Bill E Beckwith et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•1990•Cited by: 2

The study under report examined the effects of time of day on prose recall in morning- and evening-type individuals. Subjects listened to two easy and two difficult passages at either 09.00, 14.00 or 20.00. Immediately after listening to a taperecorded version of each story, subjects were asked to write their recalls. The results indicated that recall decreased across time of day for morning types but increased for evening types. The effects of i…

  • The Speed of Word Recognition Subprocesses and Reading Achievement in College Students

Robert J Chabot, Howard Zehr et al.•ARTICLE•Reading Research Quarterly•1984•Cited by: 2

RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN the speeds of word encoding, lexical access, semantic memory access processes, and reading achievement were investigated using college undergraduates as subjects. In Experiment 1 subjects made decisidns about pairs of words using visual, name, or semantic information. In Experiment 2, silbjects used semantic information to make categorical decisions about word or picture pairs. Reading achievement was measured for all subjec…
